OK...I'm one or both of my tubes are microphonic...so this might explain some things. Early overdrive and compression, and the volume stops getting louder at about half way. It's not nearly as loud as the Fusion 550/ 8ohm Neo 210 cab I came from. I should have two new tubes tomorrow(thanks Poon!). So should these solve all my problems?
He is sending me one JJ and one Tung-Sol...wish position do you guys suggest for these?
Just swap them around and see which one you like in pos. 1 and then put the other in pos. 2.![]()

Good question. Not sure how you're supposed to know, but I know mine's a 4 because I called Mesa customer service today. I gave them the serial number from the used Scout I bought, and asked them to check and see when it was built. November 2004, and while he was looking he told me it was recorded as a 4.
He also encouraged me to get an 8ohm speaker for the combo if I'm going to run it with an extension, which won't surprise anybody here because that's Mesa's design recommendation. (An 8ohm 12" replacement speaker from Mesa is $119.)
, and lost volume
, and almost sounded like it was going to bring in a Radio station :scowl:...I tried tightening tubes
in my bass, wondered if I'd blown a speaker
or worse by the minute...and then I remembered that you had this suggestion on this site for "fixing some kind of WA problem" and I spent about an hour
looking for your fix tonight after work...then I found it..."Clean the inputs and outputs"...was the 1st thing you said...I took 4 q-tips and sprayed a littled WD40 on them and stuck them gently into each input and out put on my cab and amp-then I plugged back in and turn it on....Vrrrooommm
!!! In my over 40 years of playing I have never had that happen to an amp before, and its truly a remarkable and easy fix that every bassist should know about!! Thanks for sharing Chef
...Don't you just love TalkBass?!! Peace...DAcat OK...OK...last question...how can you tell if your WA is 4 or 8 ohms?
