Back in the WA fold :) Had a blackface 12 and now have a silverface 15. The 15 sounds a bit bigger to me. I think the 12 was a little tighter/compressed.

Yeah-the 15 is a lot bigger, esp down low, and can spout the full 300 watts, or darn close to it. Great sounding combo. I remember Lake Minnetonka........spent a year in Rochester way back in 90-91. It was coooooooooooooold in winter and hoooooooooooot in summer, and there weren't no spring or fall no way no how:p, but I really dug Minn-St P! My son was born there and as a result is a die-hard Wild fan, which is a challenge when you go to school in Montreal.

Minnesota doesn't get cold :P I hear Rochester is the city of the future according to Yahoo, very nice town. The 15 can take some juice, I've had it up half and its more than enough for any of my needs. I think they should have put handles on both sides of the unit. You can carry from the top but its a hell of a schlep.

Agreed. I call it a dragabout. The tone, though, is da bomb:D
FWIW Rochester was OK but didn't float my boat like Minn-St P. It was a very conservative town , and during that year I worked 80-90 hour weeks; it's kind of a blur.

You guys are bringin' back some OLD time for me with your talk of Minn/St P. Where I grew up in Canada, we used to pick up WDGY (WEE GEE as it was affectionately called) AM radio on our transistor radios in the early 1960's. Rock & Roll sure ain't now what it was then. :bassist:

Hi, can anyone there recommend any retailers of Mesa gear in or near Sydney Australia who might have the Walkabout and other Mesa gear in stock? Seems to be a bit hard to find. The company listed as the Australian distributor is in Canberra, and their website presents them as a retail business.

There's been a WA in Oz ebay lately. He might be a Sydney dealer.
Not being from Sydney I dunno, but Canberra has Pro Audio Supplies who're Mesa dealers. Bit of a hike tho.

Mesa's site basically says warranty is via the dealer outside US and Canada. Pro Audio are listed as the Australian distributor. If I need to go to them for service it's not workable, plus their prices on the website put them out of the ballpark.

The shop with the ebay Walkabout has a lot more stuff on ebay than in the store. Their total stock appears to be one walkabout with a broken gain pot. Check before you bid.:)

Ooooh eeeeerrrrr!
& yeah +1 re the $$$ @ Pro Audio! I was simply trying to answer ur question :)

Just an FYI about a WA gigbag alternative. I found this Odyssey mixer bag on eBay. About $60 delivered. Fits perfectly with excellent padding and, unlike the Mesa carry bag, unzips fully on 3 sides and is an easy fit.

Sorry, didn't mean to be grumpy. I had a very bad day in that store yesterday and it probably flowed out unconsciously in my response. If I can't get even minimal levels of service when asking for a chance to buy such an expensive amp, what treatment could I expect if I turned up with a warranty claim?

I really think the Walkabout could be my Nirvana and I want to try it out, but it's proving impossible to do. Unless something changes, looks like it's GK Fusion or Ampeg for me. I am very frustrated at this.

If anyone at Mesa is looking at their sales figures and wondering why Australia is underperforming for them in bass gear sales, I have the answer. Wanting one of your amps and having the money to buy it appears not to be enough :(

No worries & no ill intent taken. I hear u re the Mesa situation here in Aus. I've never been to Pro Audio in Canberra, so I can't comment on their instore service, but your experience sounds poor!
Have you looked on
www.ozbassforum.com ??
There are a few ppl with WA's there, some may be near you.
I'd offer you mine to try, but Tas. is a bit of a swim ;)
Also,u could try contacting George at Bass Gear Direct he's close to Sydney & may know of one

Thanks, I'll follow up your suggestions.

I need to correct an impression I apparently made. My instore experience was not with Pro Audio. My issue with Pro Audio is their prices. Beyond that, I didn't post here to dump in individuals stores so I'll drop that side.

I posted looking for a way to put Mesa back on my want list. Hopefully your suggestions will help. Thanks. Other suggestions also welcome.

A question, what is the street price of the Walkabout Head in the US?

Ok. Cool.
Yes, the Mesa prices are huge in Aus. Afaik Mesa have a 'lock' on their retail prices, so it may not be ANY Aus dealer's fault.

But, yep, I agree with you, altho, the WA is hand made-US made, & seems to be all quality 'in the hand' (& ear). I've only ever bought 2nd hand!
Goodluck with yr search.

That's why I'm curious about US street prices. And then I guess the next question is power supply - whether it is switchable to match Australian.

If I have no confidence in the Australian dealers for after sales support, maybe I just buy a US amp. OR maybe I buy GK or Ampeg, who seem to be better organised here.

But my heart is saying Mesa is the one.
