Mesa M-Pulse600

I actually have/had 2 or 3 old telefunkens that I pulled from my dads old tube stereo from the 60s.
MMm... I hope i can find them after my last move...
If i do i will report back.

Not that the new Mesa tube is bad, Its not. but it sure can gain up and grind at about 1 to 1:30 on the input gain.. 12 o'clock is within the safe zone.. However i do like a slight gained tone at times
My last Mpulse that i owned a few years ago had a different tube in there and it could get to at least 2:00 before it got gritty.. I hope it didn't sell that one with the telefunkens in it.. mmmm

Did my first few gigs with the Mpulse 600.. For one thing i think it is plenty loud.... I had the M9 on hand as back up just in case, Soundchecks went great..
Its a nice tubey type tone. It can get downright dirty if you gain up the Input Vol past 2pm with a 60s P bass.
Sort of like a LOUD B15 in a way.. Im digging it... I had one about 7 years ago but all the gigs were IEM so i never got to appreciate what the Mpulse can do

I'm glad you're happy with it - although I've been using my Streamliner 900 for most of my gigs these days, my M-p 600 isn't going anywhere - it's just a killer amp... Have you checked out the DI??? - great sounding DI, IMO/IME...

Yeah, I'd use a REDDI if I had one, too - in a live mix, I've consistantly gotten excellent results with the DIs from the M-p 600 or Streamliner 900...

Agreed - the Big Block 750 is quite "tubey", also - but doesn't stay clean enough at my typical playing volumes...

I finally swapped the two 12ax7's that were installed in the MPulse600 (don't know what they are, but they were both the same) with the Tung Sol reissues, per a couple of TBer's recommendations.

Pretty cool... not night and day, but I do now get more 'preamp gain' without break-up, and a slightly more sparkly top end, and a touch deeper low end... I guess you would call this sound more 'modern and clean' than whatever was in there before.

Again, pretty subtle, but it's there, and it moves the 600 to a slightly wider cleaner tone. Since that's not what these amps are really about, for many, that might not really be an improvement over the stock tubes.

Necropost, because... why not? Anyone else do any tube rolling? I don't like the compression effect of the input gain on anything past 1:00. If I leave it there and adjust the master, I just don't get enough volume out of my 2x15 3015 loaded cabs. My GK 1001 RB-ii produces the volume in heaps, but I like the Mesa tone best. Looking to get more clean volume.
