Mesa M-Pulse600

Got mine about 2 weeks ago: still gettin used to it. It's substantively different from the walkabout, while still being pretty similar-if that makes any sense at all...

ran mine at 2.67 for about an hour tonight: it didn't even get warm.
any of you guys running at 2.67 (or two )ohms?

Mine wasn't racked. It appears to draw fresh air from the front, and vent out the left side...any concerns in racking it?
 
I'm resurrecting this thread cause I am thinking about stacking my Diesel 115 and PH 212 (just to experiment with bigness) and was looking for a thread about running the M-Pulse 600 at 2.67 ohms and found this... Chef never got his answer in 08... anyone care to comment in 2010?

I would have to *assume* that it would be fine, since it's already been confirmed with the Walkabout by many users, myself included. Mesa doesn't reccomend it, but I think they're just covering their bee-hinds, is all. That's my opinion, anyway. I'd just watch closely, and see if it starts getting hot- and unless it does, it'll rock hard all nite.
 
Be cfareful.
If the transformer doesn't have a two ohm tap, it'll smoke.

Been a while since I read the manual on this, but, proceed at your own risk. I know the Walkabout does, the MPulse 360 does not.
 
Chef: i have an M-Pulse 360 and it says on the back of the amp that it will tolerate a 2 Ohm load (but it's "not recommended"). would this not imply that the transformer does have the appropriate tap for running that load.

i'm curious about this....

the MP600 rear panel pictured says
4 ohm recommended
2 ohm minimum

2. The optimum speaker load for your M-PULSE is 4 Ohms. You may use a cabinet (s) of a higher rating safely (8 Ohm) with no
degradation in tone, however the amplifier will not produce its full rated wattage. Minimum load rating is 2 Ohms and while the MPULSE
will handle this lower load condition - and in fact produce more than its rated power, it is not recommended. Prolonged use
of a 2 Ohm load will cause the power mosfets to run hot causing the protection circuit to trigger and mute the output signal until such
time as the mosfets can return to a safe operating temperature. Avoid using 2 Ohm loads whenever possible.

note: the walkabout used to say 2 ohm minimum on the rear panel, and no longer does so.

it's typical "CYA" wording

I read it as saying "2 ohm is safe if you don't dog-whip it. If you do, it will overheat and go into thermal protect."

YMMV, of course.
 
Ok...just got mine last week. In a bit of a quandary. Here's the deal, anyone who can comment, it's appreciated.

I ran it thru a bunch of different cabs I have, sounds good so far, but I'm puzzled.
I have a pre-fender SWR Goliath Sr. (6x10 @ 4 ohms), and when I try to run it solo with the M-Pulse, the M-Pulse seems to be too much for it. Gain is only at around 11 o'clock, and when I hit fairly hard, the Goliath farts out on me. I had the cabinet checked out, because I thought I had blown a speaker or something, and it's fine. When I hook up my SWR Bass 750 (also pre-Fender) to it, the cabinet is fine. But you can definately tell the M-Pulse is a hell of a lot more amp than the SWR. I ran the M-Pulse thru a custom 1x12 with a horn (400 watt Eminence driver) and a SWR SOB 1x15, and it sounds fantastic. I can push the gain and master without it sounding like the Goliath.

So I guess the questions are:
Anyone tell me why the Goliath can't seem to handle the M-Pulse by itself?
Recommendations on a 6x10/1x15 combination for the M-Pulse?
Opinions on other cabinet configs? Mostly gigging covers, but I also do drop tuned metal on occasion. Thanks!
