Mesa M6 Carbine Mega-Thread Pt Deux

Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. The shop I'm familiar with has seen much more Mesa sales since they became the only store in town carrying them. When GC has a wall full, that will unfortunately divide the small pie in any given city.

That being said, it might be a good move for Mesa. However, given the delivery delays posted here, it doesn't seem like they have massive excess capacity to fill a much bigger distribution network. So, that, and the nightmare they seemed to have the GC previously seems to make this a strange business move to me, unless they are going to overseas production on some stuff (which I would doubt).

It might be because of the fall on sales on expensive amps like Mesa. I haven't seen any Mesas move in my store since January I believe...

Actually, my point was they HAVE been moving in this store since Mesa pulled out of GC. I assume if and when they get back into this more mass retailer, it will impact the small mom and pops just like it did when they were in there the first time.

Again, that's just the way of the world. My feeling, though, is it is strange due to the fact that they can't seem to keep up with orders at this point. I could understand it if they had a warehouse full of stuff and were looking to cram it through the retail chain. It would also make sense if they were trying to get really big and outsourcing production and coming out with lower line stuff like, for example, Epifani.

No big deal for me, I just find it 'curious' from a business perspective, and given the ugliness that involved the relatively recent GC pull-out.

All very good points...

again, concur on all points

Hey guys, ive had my Fathom for about 2 months now. I think its a great head with tons of power, but I not really finding it to be usable power. What I mean is this....

when i play live I feel a huge boomy sound with my bass set at around 10:00. Should i make sure the deep isnt on? Or should i set the DI to pre eq? Anyways, to me it seems like the carbine or fathom just does tight fingerstyle well, or bassy slap well. Im struggling to find a nice warm, tight low mid sound out of it.
Ive also messed around quite a bit with the gain, and never really gotten any great growl or tones out of that, even cranked up to 3!
I would really like to get a nice warm tight sound out of this amp, but i feel like it might not be possible without a compressor or even a mpulse 600 instead!

Any suggestions?

Yes, turn the deep off!
You might like the pre-di better, try that.

The M6 is a clean machine. Try turning the input up, and the master down, but, it still gonna stay pretty clean.

I tend to run mids and treble flat, or close, and bass cut to 10 o'clock or so. Deep off, mostly. Deep on enhances highs, but also lets more low signal pass. When using it, I cut bass even more.

What type of cab are you using? Is the boominess more from FOH or your cab? Try what chef suggested first. Maybe experiment with a cab with less natural low end. As a former BB750 and Mpulse 600 user I am not sure you will find either to tighter. More growl-yes but not as tight or quick.

No experience with the BB, but IME, the M6 is tighter than either the MPulse 600, Walkabout, or 400(+)...
Not a great match with the 410UL Epi as it's already big enough down low. Better with the AE410 Berg...

Quick question for those using footswitches for the mute or EQ voicings - I was at the Mesa shop in Hollywood and asked them if they had switches that were less than the $60 Mesa brand ones and they told me to go across the street to guitar center, which is what I expected them to say. In passing, the guy said to pick up anything "non-LED." That stuck in my head, and now I'm wondering if there is any reason why one with an LED wouldn't work. Is it just that the LED won't light when I step on the switch or is there a difference in how those things are meant to work? GC has the Boss FS-5L with an LED. I get the Livewire non-LED one Mr. Bear pointed me to earlier, but would need to order it.

Well, my pedal (of which I still owe pic of) has led's, but they are powered by an internal 9v.

By popular demand...The second pic has the footswitches depressed and the lights on, but its hard to tell how nice they look because its a little washed out.

Seemed like a good idea at the time to get one, but I don't have much use for it. :scowl: I need to think things through a bit more :)

Does it work ok, and do you find it useful?

I've not tried playing with just plain old jumpers to see if I'd find any of the combinations "good things," or just ''more stuff.''

I can just use any 1/4" signal cord to test with right? like the lil short ones I used to use from preamp to power amp? do I need to worry about the ''dangling end'' touching anything? cover it with electrical tape?
