Mesa M6 Carbine Mega-Thread Pt Deux

Its funny some of the features or lack of that Mesa puts forward. My Big Block 750 is the earliest one with no controls at all to switch to the overdrive channel or mute the signal on the amp. You must have the footswitch which is included or else there is no way to access the overdrive channel or use the mute. This was soon addressed with the updated version but having a pull mute switch on the master volume control is really awkward.

I really like the Big Block but cannot get a Carbine out of my head. Turns out at this point, the largest music store chain in Canada has no M6's in stock at any of their 42 locations and have had them on back order since June 2009!!! M9's are available as the odd store demo unit but no new stock anywhere.

I wonder if Mesa is having a hard time keeping up with orders or if there is some problem with supply. I am right on the edge of trading in my Big Block for an M6 or M9 but I may not even be able to locate one.

I think you'd like the M6, but it is a different animal than the Big Block - more presence than the typical Mesa stuff. As fas as supply and demand goes, I think that has more to do with the economy in general. Musicians, being the ****heads that they are, typically don't have money to spend as it is in good times, much less when things are really crappy, so Mesa isn't going to build things if they think they can't sell them.

Howdy!
my 400+ weighed 52lbs, racked and boxed to ship to it's next owner, I don't know where you found one that weighed 90+lbs...maybe you have two of them...

The M6 does has lots of low end. I wouldn't call it boomy in my experience, but, I'm much more likley to have the bass knob trimmed a little, rather than boosted at all. It does have enough jiuce to launch cones: with great power comes great responsibility: be careful with that axe Eugene;) I don't think this head is any different than any head that's putting out well over 600 watts in that regard.

Yes, the pull to mute master volume is not the best choice on the planet, but it's not *all that horrid.* Better than not having a front panel mute, like many amps.

Hey Chef,

What do you like better? The F1 thru a UL2-410 or the M6 thru the Ul2-410?

I currently have the F1/UL2-410 rig and love it. But, for my rock gigs I could use something different.

Me, personally, I loove the M6; but I used the F1 last night because, ya know, I have it...so I need to use it.
It works with that cab really well; and it's just soooo easy to pack.
My Sadowsky bag will hold the F1 and all my cables, tuner, etc.

Hey guys having a problem with my M9. Had a gig friday night and everything went on ok comp worked, eq worked,DI worked but had no signal to my cab. I tried 3 different speaker cables, different instrument cables, new fuses, different cab, different bass - everything I could think of still nothing.

I've left 3 messages at mesa today and still response. Anyone had these problems? I bought the head new on Dec 3rd. I know these things happen but it is quite upsetting it happened so soon.

Thanks for any help.

I think we would all agree the beauty of this amp is in many things, but what shines the most is the versatility. I use a PH210 and PH212. I like the 210 for the height and clarity. Playing by myself, I favor the 212, but in a band/live the 10s really help.

Could you expand upon the above a bit. Really interested in that 210.

Dave - I've done both. also, the PH 2x10 with the PH 1x12 on top is rocking. The 2x10 puts out so much bottom. I've played it with my SWR Goliath 4x10 and it sounds as large and loud... Fantastic stuff that MESA!!!
Rich

What does that combo (2x10 + 112) give you over a pair of
PH 210's?

Had another great night with the M6 at rehearsal. I pulled out the Warwick Thumb 5 BO and set everything at noon on the amp, pulled the bass knob, and set the switch to active pickups, ditched my pedal board and just played right into my PH212 and was in bliss. I moved the mid-selector knob around and liked every tone I landed on. I'm a happy camper with this amp-er.

Chronicle - same thing happened to me recently. I shook the head around and heard something moving. Plugged it back in and it powered on again. Figured something had come loose inside. I learned how to use a screwdriver a little while back :) , so I opened up the head, and sho nuff, there was a connector that had come loose from the circuit board causing intermittent power failure. I just pushed it back in place, and it has been good ever since. Probably came loose during shipping and gigging. Glad it didn't go out on me during a gig! Glad I didn't have to send it back to CA. Really easier than I thought, and the guts of this thing are really not that intimidating once you open the case. That being said, be careful and you are still on your own...
