Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread

Since this seems to be headed for being the M6 megathread, I thought I might as well fish in a bigger pond.
[For any interested here's the other thread.]

---------------------

I'm interested in the M6 and was hoping some of you have compared it to either or both of the TFB-750A and SD800.

I know the other two have a bit more power (on paper) and the SD800 has a minimum 4ohm impedence restriction.

I'm also curious about each one's performance into 8ohm cabs.

I really like the tone of the Markbass F1, but most of the time I use an 8 ohm cab.
I also occasionally do outdoor gigs with no PA support, so I need a bit more power/headroom than the F1 gives.

---------------------

Not attempting to sidetrack anything, but I suspect that the hopefully soon-to-be-forthcoming Accugroove Synergy may also be of interest to me (and possibly others who are looking at the M6).
Though I suspect that it may end up being more expensive and probably a bit more of a direct-to-board-with-eq type of a tone than the M6.
I don't suppose anyone has heard any prototypes of the Synergy have you?
[Guess that is a sidetrack...Sorry!]

Do you think I am correct in expecting it to be more transparent tonally than the M6?

Not really.

To clarify, while the M6 is not aimed at being 'transparent', it is very clear and articulate. I was only able to hear the Synergy for a little bit and only with Accugroove cabinets, but it has its own coloration, but in a more traditionally 'tube-like' manner.

You know, I've noticed over my 57 years that the busier a person is the more cryptic they tend to be.
I know you are indeed more busy that a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, so we'll let that slide...for now.

LOL! I am actually on the phone and working on another document right now, so yes, you could say that. :smug:

Because (from what I read, with no personal experince, yet) this amp does not get to sounding tubey:
enriched harmonic content, crunch, grind, overdrive
even with the preamp section pushed hard.

Therefore, I think this is much like the Eden Navigator and WT800 in terms of where the tube is, and what it does: "it's just there for flavor." And pretty little of it in this case.

Especially when compared to other Mesa products.

Thanks big time for that added clarification!

That makes me lean a lot more towards the M6 because I'm basically more of an SS tone type of guy (at least if done right).

I strongly suspect that you are right.

That makes sense I guess. On the other hand, I had a F1X that I thought was very tubey sounding, and replacing the preamp tube had zero effect on the tone. So go figure. I'm going to try out some different tubes anyways just to see. To be honest, if I could put a lower gain tube in and it would lower the noise floor of the amp, I would be happy. It has a slight bit of ambient hiss that I would be glad to do away with.

You're probably right, but I guess it still warrants a bit of exploration.

And you call me a gear snob. :smug: So I am guessing you are digging the Fathom... I mean Carbine... Both!:D

Hi Bob!!! Yeah, for me.... the Fathom / M6 Carbine is THE tone I want, especially through the Aguilar 12's. I'm totally happy with it all. Nice to hear from you.... and yes, you most certainly are.... a gear snob :) But there's nothing wrong with that!

Thinking hard about getting one of these in the 212 combo format. They have one in one of our local shops and it sounds pretty good. I'm really having a hard time deciding between the M6 Carbine combo, GK 1001RBII 212 combo and Edens metro combo. The latter are the companies top of the line combos where as the M6 seems to be a budget model for Mesa. Any opinions as far as volume, reliebilty...? Thanks.

Mesa doesn't make any budget gear... It's all designed to be the best it can be, no holds barred. The carbine is just a different sound philosophy than their other gear. All of those combos are fine amps, I just prefer the Mesa sound... especially the mesa speakers!

That's my overall cab plan... except substitute M6 with Titan. They are certainly a nice pair of cabs to have!

That's what I'm thinking---should give me the best of both worlds.

It'll be a ways down the road until I can pick one up, and of course, I'll have to get the vintage model, so it matches my 810 (yeah, I'm a nerd:o). Although it might come sooner than later, as a couple offers for side projects that I'm currently considering wouldn't require the wall of sound that the 810 puts out.
