Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread

My Fathom (M6) just kills into a 2.67 ohm load (like my AE410/AE210 stack), and it is very, very loud. I've tried plenty of heads, and this is a very honestly rated head with gobs of headroom. It does well into either a 2-ohm or 2.67-ohm load, yet also maintains good power into an 8-ohm load.

That being said, there is no denying that the B1500 is one heck of a good amp for the money, and I like it a lot. But considering the size and performance of the M6, it's tough to beat, IME/IMHO.

I spoke with a tech at Mesa about this very thing the other day, he said if its less than a solid 4 ohms, use the 2 ohm switch mode.

Sort of, but plan on a little time to pull the head out, as one must remove all of the grill screws and then the four rackmount screws holding the head in the top frame.

I was able to watch when my gear guy swapped the cabinet that Mesa originally sent for the correct Custom Vinyl cabinet and grill I had ordered.

True? Doesn't sound too difficult of a task!
I'm currently working with a Walkabout Scout which is all good for a great sounding, portable amp for practicing with or without other players as well as for smaller, intimate gigs. But I'm looking for a more powerful head for those bigger gigs.
The M6 Combo sounds like something I could do both with (with a bit of extra help from another cab for the bigger events) and would realistically no longer need the Walkabout Scout.
Anyone in a similar position?

not me, but keep in mind that the M6 sounds nothing like the Walkabout/MPluse amps at all. Much more SS sounding, so if you like the MPulse/Walkabout tone, you will be in for a bad surprise with the M6.

If you are looking for more power, try either running the WA pre out, via the FX send, to a power amp, or possibly look at the MPulse600. The 600 does not sound exactly like the Walkabout version of the MPulse, but does have the general MPulse family tone and the 600 watts, and is waaay closer to the Walkabout than the M6.

Has anyone done a comparison with the MPulse 600.. Is it as loud or louder before breakup starts?
I had an Mpulse that i absolutely loved.. This Carbine looks great on paper and in this thread but I have yet to try one..
Just wondering if is is close to or exceeds the Volume output of the MPulse 600

It seems to have more wump than the MPulse600, and a TOTALLY different tone... much tighter, much more SS, much brighter and sizzlier up top. The MPulse600 was very much about 'clean tube tone', and had a very big, bloomy low end and a bit of 'give' in the feel of the notes to me. The Carbine is about clean, powerful, super quick SS tone to my ear, with more of a 'suggestion of a tube' in the gain stage. As I described earlier in this thread, this seems to be the Mesa head for guys who don't like Mesa heads! It feels and sounds quite a bit like the M2000 with both channels engaged.

The Carbine is closer to the sound of my F1 than it is to the MPulse to my ear, although it has a LOT more ooomph than the little F1 (which also has a lot of ooomph compared to most amps).
