Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread

After a bit of experimenting (and reading the manual thoroughly) I found out I can combine any two voicings by plugging a simple latching (on/off, not momentary) foot switch in one of the rear 1/4" voice selections. Then when back out front playing I can select any of the other three voices or flat settings for some really powerful and enjoyable tones.

You can do some other tricky things too with 1/4 male connectors that have been shorted (or closed by connecting the tabs inside the plug) and inserting them into one or more voice selections there by turning them on. Haven't done this and I don't know if you can combine more than two voicings.

I prefer the M6 Carbine over the Fathom :0)

Kirk, Only one gig so far, but it was "whoopin" !!!
I always like to use the 'passive' un-padded selection vs. the active for active basses etc., (like I always did on my DB750), but this amp had to stay on the 'active' setting on the gig. I play a Sadowsky w/9v pre which is pretty powerful but just too much in the passive.

I would really like to try this rig on an outside venue but too late in the season now. To me that is the true test of a rig. I've had a couple "powerful" amps that just ran out of juice when I needed it on an outside gig. One thing to consider though, the cabs were not efficient compared to AE410 so that might have been part of the reason. Anyway the M6 seems to have a boat load of headroom. Call me a gear skeptic ... it's true. :D

Something explained to me by a respected designer/engineer. He spoke of transformers and dynamic headroom in heavy amps. This made sense to me because the older heavy boat anchor amps never ran out of headroom. Technology has come a long way though, so the M6 seems to be a real contender.

Anyway I really like the amp so far. The AE410 seems to be a very good match depending on what you like. It's a very accurate set up.

We are the "headliner" going on at 11:15, and the Elbo room has a reputation for keeping things on time. Frankly, I could use a bass player friend there to give me an idea on what I sound like (volume, eq and whatnot).

That actually might be an option, and I'd have to get going early as well... maybe really early... PM me your contact info. If I am able to make it, I could potentially bring a bass to play for a set as well if you'd like. :)

DOH! I'm not used to thinkin' about single set gigs. I was thinking "for one of multiple sets".... yeah, in other words, not thinking. :D Out here in the stix there's just one band on a given night in a bar. :D S'cuze me while I wipe this egg off my face and remove my shoe from my mouth... ;)
