is 59 to 62 pounds. But, technology being the way it is and everyone looking to go lighter I think next year and the year after we will see alot of good light amps. Mark bass and the Shuttle are just the beginning. We will see 750 and above watts at 4 to 10 pounds. But again this thing is very interesting - m6 - when talking about its tone alone.

That was me that made the comment, and didn't mean to make it sound like a big deal... I hoped to put it in perspective by qualifying it with the today's tech advancements comment. I'm likely gonna' end up with one of these, and I'm VERY sensitive to weight issues, so it can't be too bad. :)

And just to be clear, I still dig the TF550.. GREAT sounding head.. warm, tight and smooth. But volume-wise, and low end wise, and treble response wise, it isn't even in the same league as the M6.

All TFB props are deserved. Thing is, I've always been able to "warm up" a head like the M6 with a little EQ. However, as much as I tried, I could never really get the TFB to open up like the M6 can. IMHO/YMMV!

Mine should be here tomorrow. I'm thinking it will slam through the NV610/NV215 rig. Glad it has the 2 ohm capability because these cabs are such a lovely pair.

So last week I went to a Mesa dealer that was a few miles from my office to see what kind of bass gear they had. The answer was not much (VPH 4x10 4ohm and a Scout cab), but asked what was coming in and said he had an M6 coming in and would I like him to call me when it did.

Got the call yesterday so I headed over there at lunch with my Mahogany Skjold. I had gotten to play an M6 before briefly, but this was the first extended time with one and with one of my basses.

I am impressed, so much freakin' headroom. I didn't have my Little Mark with me but I could tell that it was punchier and louder. I promised myself I would sell some extra gear before I buy anything else, so it will have to wait, but I really think I want one now.

I KNOW you want one... can you imagine that LP through a rig with all that tonal size and headroom, just a touch of tube growl? Oh my... :)

WhooHoo new M-6 just arrived.

Little confused on the Bass Knob though....

The manual states the Bass control is 'active' and has a cut/boost center 'Q' , but the pot/control does not have a detent like it sounds as though it should. They directly compare the Treble knob which does have the detent at noon. Not so with the Bass knob which just goes from left to right smoothly.

Curiously the Mid knob is 'passive' but also has the detent. :hmm:

The Bass knob does pull-out as stated in the manual, just thought it would have a detent to cut/boost.

Mesa is closed on Friday so I can't call the Tech today.

edit-I: I did pm Vic who has had some time with a Fathom/M6 and he is pretty sure this is how they all are.
Mesa Manuals have alway left me confused on at least one or two operational items. Shrug.

edit-II: Mark at Bass Club Chicago verified that the other M6 in stock works the same as I've described above.

Mine is like this too. I think they probably just don't make a detented pot that is also push/pull.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering why it has a detent in the middle too if it is passive. This amp sounds killer with the NV's - if you still have yours, you may want to keep them.

It sounds excellent with my el whappo and tri 112. I think the forward voicing of the M6 fills in the upper mids and highs nicely with those cabs. To my ears The M6 definitely pairs better with the el whappo than the LMII or the F1, or Iamp800, or the thunderfunk. It sounds more even across the spectrum through that cab, more balanced, and cops the "giant studio monitor" vibe that I like. Can't comment directly on a whappo jr or 2 tri112's though.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking as far as synergy with different cabs.

I gigged my new M6 last night via the AE410 and my Sadowsky 4 banger. It's a sweet rig and filled the room. I still noticed an obvious drop off of lows and punch as I moved away from the rig from side to side and out front all at about 15 ft. but of course some of that is my ears being used to right up close. The off axis was a bit better than right out front. Our drummer sound man said he liked the tone as it was more grindy and not as boomey as some my other amps (B1500 and LMII) and another bass player said it really filled the room farther back. Good enough for me. In this particular room I did find my tone somewhat cushy low end predominent but you have to expect some of that. I'll try removing my rear caster next time as I usually stand about 2-3 ft in front of my rig. I also find the M6 very acurate as it bring out my crappy style and lots of string noise.

Today I hooked up my Dr. Bass 1260 8ohm 3-way cab on top of the AE410 set at the 2ohm setting and in my practice room it sounded awesome. The Cabine is a well built and well thought out amp with tons of power. It is a very handsome looking amp too. Bravo to Mesa is my first impression.
