Thanks for the M9 gas! I just bought a pair of Mesa PH212's; An M9 head on top of them would look really sweet. I power them with a Crest CA9 and a Demeter HBP-1 preamp, which sounds fantastic IMHO.

But I'm really interested in the M9 lately. Everyone describes it as "Quick and more SS than tubey", but does it have any tube "warmth"? I like a 70's classic rock tone (I.e. Led Zep's John Paul Jones)with the slightest bit of overdrive and lots of low mids punch.

Can the M9 get this type of tone?

We are actually in Galena at the Eagle Ridge Resort &Spa-about 3 hours from Chicago.We flew into Chicago.Bad weather in Dallas yesterday screwed everything up today.We got to DFW at noon yesterday and then moved to Love Field.Got to Kansas City and more bad weather.Just got here-3:50AM.

Traded for an M9 and love it..SOOOO powerful..definitely the most powerful amp I have experienced. I like the gain above noon for warmth(similar with my old walkabouts) and can barely turn the volume on through my glockenklang quattro without shaking walls..lots of air moving even at low volumes..so cool..messing with settings now but I like it flat out of the box with a tad of compression and on voice 4 flat as well. Also dig the pull deep feature for dub/reggae tones.

I bought the two space skb for it: question for you all as I really haven't used rackmount amps much..is this really enough space to let the dragon breathe? Seemed warmer than other amps out the back side..and that was for a short period of playing time. BTW..I have a m9 that has the updated venting on it..is it normal for it to be pretty warm? Should I modify the skb case and drill a hole or two in the top of the skb to let some heat out?...or should I get a three space?..seems there is adequate space on either side in the standard 2U skb..a little space up above it but not much..?

I definitely want to try out an M9! Having that much power, a GEQ, and an onboard compressor in a 2-space amp, -that's under 35 lbs racked, are very attractive features in my book.

I'd imagine my Demeter HBP-1/Crest CA9 would be tonally in the same ballpark as the M9. IMO the Demeter is very "quick", -probably not as tubey as some of the other tube preamps out there.

Thought I'd add to the gush fest... The M9 is amazing! Having 2 eq's to choose from, and soooo much power on tap is beyond great. I'm running mine through a Mesa Powerhouse 210 at 8ohms and at 450 watts it is very loud and articulate. Hooking up my Eden Nemesis 210 cab to it, and going 4ohms through both at 900 watts yields wall rumbling super punch. Of course, loud is loud, but this amp is so articulate and punchy it surprises me every time. It is an 'involuntary smile inducing device' for sure! Every effect I run through it, from fuzz to distortion to chorus, comes out so well defined. I definitely feel no need to try out other amps as the M9 gives me the tones I hear in my head when I'm imagining awesome bass tones.

M9 + Thumb 5 + .050/.135 strings = growly uber punchy articulated awesomeness!
