I agree Chef, I have played almost everything I could get my hands on, and to me, there is just no comparison. The M9 pegs my tone perfectly every time. Eventually, I may even like it more than my old RAH600SMX Trace Elliot, but I doubt it. Only time will tell.

Been away for a while and thought I'd say howdy.
I'm wondering if anyone with a retrofitted early M9 has experienced the noise condition I am now getting:
The unit has a hum/buzz that is higher in frequency and more complex than the 60hz related hum/buzz one typically meets. In addition, the lower few pitches on the E string elicit a mild amplitude modulation of about 5 or 6hz. Unit basically works OK, otherwise.
I have swapped out the speaker cab, cables, and bass, and shut off all electrical gear on the circuit. It is the head.
I swapped the 12AX7 (twice). Still there. Wanting to take it in for service at a Dallas shop. Any advice?

Interesting-I almost posted a similar post the other day.Ive been in search of a "micro" version of the M9(in other words a micro amp that resembles the M9 tone profile) No matter what I try,I always come back the the M9,even on small gigs where I dont need half the power.I just love the way it sits in the mix.
Agreed-good call.Im sure Audio Electronics is probably fully aware of the updates,but If it were me Id call Mesa and make sure I had a list of everything that was updated or changed and have it done,as long as you have it in anyway.
Like Crabby,mine is up to current specs and Ive had no issues at all with mine.
I think bassjam had both for a bit.
I would think that they'd kill together, but I think he had some issues with the tone.
IME the M3 will do the M9 flat, but the flexibility of the 3 is minimal compared to the M9, there's no compressor either. The M9 is just a little reptile that breathes a few sparks, as compared to the napalm spewing 9

I tried an M3,but agree its not that small or light-Id just as soon lug the M9.On our smaller gigs the M9 is way overkill,but its just tone heaven for me.
I tried a Walkabout recently(and have several times over the years) and would love to get one on a gig.I loved what I heard and I get very tempted every time I see one pop up for sale.I just may have to try that.
Im auditioning the Genz 9.2 at the moment,though its not all that small either.The GK is next on my list to try.
I have a huge interest in the PH 212.Seems a bit on the heavy side for what Id like to haul around,but if it worked Id gladly do it.
Any DFW bass dudes have a PH212???

FWIW, the MB Fusion is probably the closest I have found to the tone of the M9 in a micro package. Not a doppelganger, but in the same ballpark, IME/IMHO.
I need to try one.I did try one some time ago at the local Mesa dealer,but I was mainly checking out the M9.I dont recall much about it.

The PH212s are just awesome. And really aren't as heavy (or seem, anyway 
) as they're listed. My ex Eden cabs were much heavier. It's easy for one person to tote around.

Really!Thats good news-it is the next on my list.My M9 stays,but Id love something small and light that is in that ballpark.Im really glad to hear that.
Oh and the upcoming MB800-I think I recall you really liked that one too.
