Mesa PH115 and Traynor TC115

In my opinion the Traynor cabs are pretty mediocre but they cost a lot less then the Mesa gear. You would not get much for a used Traynor cab but the Mesa gear hold's its value quite well. I have a pair of Mesa 115 cabs and they sound really really good to my ears.

The Traynor cabs are relatively inexpensive but anything but mediocre. They're actually decent sounding cabinets and can be used by a pro bassist with confidence. Great warranty too. Speaker replacements are easy to get from Traynor if you get crazy loud and blow one. I've used them on many gigs for years paired with GK amps usually and they never let me down and always sounded good. Those were the older Yorkville models. The new Traynors are even better.

As far as comparing the Traynor 15 with the Mesa goes-the Mesa will sound better of course. But look at the difference in price. The Mesa isn't that much better. More lows and cleaner and bigger bottom. The Mesa will put out more highs, but I don't need them. The Traynor does pretty good for not having a tweeter.

Have the best of both worlds. Pair the Mesa Walkabout head with a pair of Traynor 1x15 cabinets. That's a real bass rig with real bass sounds.

Greetings from the North,

The new Traynor TC115 is not a mediocre cab. It does lack a tweeter but for what I play I don't need tweeting. It will provide that thick clear bottom that makes the booty bounce on the dance floor. Sometimes I run it with a 212+6, sometimes I run 2 TC115's together, and sometimes 1 alone. It's rated at 400 watts but will handle more with no problem. With the features, the sound, the price and warranty it is worth checking out.

I have to say i have never tried a current Traynor 115 cab. My experience was with the 115 paired with 2 10s in one cab. This was the cab that came out with the YBA200. I really didn't like that cab for many reasons. This of course was just my humble opinion.

Thanks guys for all the input. I had a chance to try out the Traynor TC115 and they also carry mesa but no 115 in stock and I missed the horn in the Traynor, so I will be checking out a Mesa 115 as soon as I can fine one.
I would like to say thanks again for all you input.

I know this thread is crazy old, but I was curious as to if you ever found a Mesa Boogie 1x15 to try out, and What you think of the two cabs, cuz I'm debating between those two cabs myself, Thanks.

I've used a pair of Mesa PH 1x15's for years and they sound amazing - tons of low end but also have great definition.

They were purchased used but are in great shape. The pair cost less than ONE new Mesa Subway 1x15 cab and way less than a PH. Highly recommended!
