Mesa Subway Bass DI-Preamp

That would end up being an awfully large "pedal", I have looked at the possibility and was quickly discouraged at how big it would have to be in order to be practical to adjust.

As far as being a preamp, one of the primary things it does is amplify an instrument level signal to line level in order to drive a power amp. Without the preamp part, it couldn't do this

This is very true the meatsmoke does everything listed except the pre and post eq switch, high pass and the effects loop and routing inputs. The mesa pre nails alot of the marks at a very affordable price point and small footprint. Just add a overdrive pedal in front and cab sim and you can cover almost any tones you come across

The Meatsmoke pedal has a very different feature set (ie. no XLR outs for DI and direct driving of a pro power amp) than the Subway, different product for different needs.

Sat on the fence too long thinking about buying the D-800. Now the price went up so ordered the DI instead. In the end I think its the right choice anyway since I spend a lot of time recording.

I am about to pull the trigger on the DI and then I think "should I wait and see if some version 2 comes out soon?"

What did the amps go up like 15%?

Did some recording with the Mesa DI the other night. I was very impressed! So easy to get great tones. Nice work!

Try it and see. You can still use the MB120, fed from the Subway's thru output.

Well, I had an opportunity to compare the MB110 and Subway’s DI from a FOH perspective. The difference was very significant. The Subway was far more authoritive at the low end with better definition and clarity at both the low end and high end.

Needless to say, the sound tech was very impressed.

Just a heads up for anyone looking to make more room on their boards. Pedaltrain makes a double pedal 'booster' that works great as a stand alone mount for the Subway Preamp effectively allowing for a single pedal board. I added some rubber feet on mine to keep it from skating around and it parked it on top of my power amp which freed up 7" on my Nano+.

Truth. The meatsmoke is made to power a amp but no di sadly thats my main gripe. But anyways heres a pic of the mesa on my board

Just what I’ve been looking for to tilt my Ditto X2 a bit on my Nano+ board.

I’m pretty happy putting my Subway up on the mic stand. Easy mount and controls right at my fingertips.

It works really well. Kind of a specialty tone; but I use it in places like the bass break in Hey Ya, and that kind of thing. FONKEEE!!

Amen to that. The Grizzly has the best driven P type tones I’ve found so far. Great pedal. @Fuzzbass put me onto it, though it took me a while to go there.

I posted the link here. It’s a little flimsy, but works perfectly well and breaks down to fit in my IEM camera bag.

I also put one of those trays above the Subway at the gig for my receiver, picks, and drinks. I’ll try to remember to snap a few more pics at the gig on Friday.

@agedhorse ....Andy, any plans on a rackmount version? You may have been asked this already, and I know the trend is away from rack stuff and more towards compact, but a rack version would be great.
