Mesa Subway D-350!

I ordered an Ampeg PF-50t and a SVT 212AV cab a year ago. I got the cab 2 days later but I’m still waiting on the amp. Has anyone tried the D350 with a SVT 212? Obviously, after a year, it’s too late to return the cab but I’d really like to at least hear it! I might try a D350 if it would work well with that cab.

Thank you.

Joe

I have not tried that pair, but I think they would be great together, assuming you like the cab. (Have you tried the cab with any other amp?)

My first Mesa amp was the D800. Then I got the D350... and I haven't used the D800 since. It has essentially become the backup to my D350.

IMO, the "darkness" of the D800 has been overstated. Perhaps it is a bit darker than other Mesa amps when comparing them A/B, but I never had an issue getting a pleasingly bright sound out of my D800, and I say that as someone who likes a bright sound.
Agreed, the darker comments tend to exaggerate an ~2dB difference (at the most).

I have not. My current amp is a Fender Studio 40 and it doesn’t have an output for an external cab. That’s what’s driving me crazy! I’ve had the cab for a year and haven’t been able to hear it!
Take the plunge and get a Mesa D350. I promise you will not regret it.

By the way, if budget is a consideration, keep an eye out for demo/open box discounts. Save some money and still get the factory warrantee.

Hey, Andy. Happy holidays. Tried to send you a PM. Your message box is full.
Thanks, my supporting membership lapsed without notification. I didn't notice it until you mentioned it.

My D350 is due to arrive later this week. One of its primary uses will be as a headphone practice amp. I’ve been using a Cafe Walter with Sennheiser HD598 phones, due to the impedance requirements of the CW.

FWIW, Sennheiser HD599’s seem to be available ATM, and seem well reviewed.

What are a good set of phones for the D350? Thanks!

I like the Sony MDR 7506 headphones, but there are certainly a lot of other fine options out there.

Such great comments, so of course I'm thinking about getting one of these myself. The old Eden WT550, awesome as it is, is kind of "hissy" for practicing at home. Will the D350 competently power two Eden 8-ohm 210's @ 4 ohms at medium volume (unless my wife is out of the house for a bit in which case anything goes... haha) with a nice low noise-floor?

Lots of good ones! Think about open vs close-back. I personally like the open-air like environment of a good set of open-backed for my home use. Bonus - I can hear Sweetie if she happens to weigh in. I recommend Beyerdynamic DT 990-Pro’s. …but there are lots of good ones.

No doubt about it.

Yes, no problem.

I suspect that when agedhorse was thinking about all those requests for a silent (passive thermal management) head he was also thinking low volume recording/studio use too because the D-350 has a very low noise floor...like imperceptible to my ears even with the bright switch on. The head sounds great at 4 Ohms and will do that all night long at fairly high volume without even getting warm.
