One of several reasons I am not a fan of gold-plated hardware and pickups on musical instruments...... The thickness of the gold flash on connectors is typically ~5 - 10 micro-inches, which when plated on conductive coated clear Mylar can actually be seen through, it's THAT thin.
In the medical test device I assembled years ago that is where we used gold pins, for the cartridges that had "stuff" running through them.Gold is better where there is chemical reactivity present (vapors corrosive to copper or tin)...
