Mesa Subway Plus preamp

Thanks.

I'm currently trying out a Quilter BB800. I'm still trying to come to terms with its preamp. But, I've been impressed with it's utility features; speakon and 1/4" inputs, line in XLR, direct out XLR, etc.

The power amp portion seems very well designed. I'm thinking the Preamp Out on the Subway+ Pre would go nicely with the Quilter's line in XLR.

This would give me the flexibility to just take the Subway+ Pre with me when I don't need my entire rig.
Should work fine.

Hi all - I have one of these plus preamps on order! Woohoo.

Question: will it run / is it advisable to run it on >9V ? (I have many analog pedals which sound better at 18V than 9V because of the increased headroom). However I always check with the manufacturer first.

Thanks

No, run it on 9V only, that's the limit. It used an internal boost regulator to boost the operating voltage to 18 volts.

after some gigging and careful listening I’ve settled on these as my go-to settings to beautifully suit my MMSR5 .

a WJ Powered 2x10 and will try the Mesa with that for a bit

A quick note of thanks to agedhorse and Mesa for the subway plus.

I've used it for two gigs now with the WJ powered 2x10 and I think it's fantastic. I've had a pair of the WJ 2x10's for almost a year. I've been trying various pres with them trying to find 'my sound' - I think with the subway plus I've found it.

The subway has plenty of signal to drive the WJ's and it's tone shaping really work well for me.

...just got mine...love it...wish it had phones out/ aux in and a comp but I totally get that nothing can have everything BUT....no adapter at this price???? Really??? I understand not including a battery, but the lack of an adapter was a bummer to me and I'm a bona fide Mesa fan boy.....glad I can now get my D800+ sound almost anywhere with this littler guy :)

Most everybody uses an isolated power supply on their pedal board anyway, so I'm glad Mesa didn't include an adapter and have to raise the price, making everybody pay for an adapter they will never use.

We did look into this, and found that just about everybody using a device like this already had their power situation sorted out (either pedalboard, isolated power supply, battery powered brick, etc.) so it would add to the cost as well as create yet more power supplies to dispose of ultimately.

Correct.
