I wanted to report - in the process of swearing off gut strings on all my basses in favor of Spirocores, I robbed my Knutson Messenger of its strings and replaced them temporarily with a set of Lenzner gut until I had a chance to order something else. Much to my surprise and dismay, the gut strings on this axe with the blend of the Barbara and normal piezo pickup (all the dials set right in the middle) is easily the most pleasant electric upright sound I've ever heard. The never-ending sustain of the Messenger coupled with the thud and decay of the gut balance each other out wonderfully. The arco tone leaves something to desired, but I'm hoping that's just my crappy technique and can be overcome with patience and practice. Has anyone else tried guts on these?
