Metal Bass Players

Pepsi Arena in Albany NY on the tour for Divine Intervention. Awesome show but it was obvious Tom wasn't even trying to match his riffs from the albums, just riding pedal tones. The other funny part about this show was that Kerry King was either drunk or just having a crap nioght. His first solo was horrible and his second was even worse. By the third song the soundman backed him completely out of the mix everytime he had a lead, all you could hear was Jeff.mwm70 said:

The second time I saw them was at Recher Theatre in Towson MD in 2002 or 2003. I forget what album it was in support of. They were horrible. Marilyn Manson played better than Slayer did that night. I don't think they got through a single song without screwing somehting up. Tom had his left hand waving around making funny metal gestures through at least half of the songs, I think he might have fretted a couple note: Gb during War ensemble, and he played the quick intro riff to Seasons with the guitars. Other than that he didn't do much at all.
He did however have very cool tone both shows, 12 SVT4 Pros and 8 dozen 10inch speakers does that
Was listening to The Real Thing by Faith No More the other day, and I kinda realized, their bass player is way cool (back in days I used to listen to guitar riffs). He's nothing special per se, has some cool licks, but his sound and the way he plays fits the music like a glove.
I actually prefer players who can fit in the band and enhance its sound more over the likes of Victor Wooten and so on.

Has anybody mentioned Frank Bello form Anthrax? The intro to "Caught in a Mosh" should get him on any list. Don't forget the solo from "Got the Time" and the fact that he doubled the mighty Scott Ian with fingers.

I guess that is my ignorance then.
I saw them in 1990 at Hammerjacks and at the Clash Of The Titans show at the Baltimore Arena around 92 and he was dead on. I guess he has gotten lazy in his old age. Very disappointing :scowl: .
not really, just because you have a distorted guitar in a band doesnt make it metal, im not dissin on the scene at all, bands like that have nothing in common with the metal bands of yesteryear and today, its a completly different style of music. its like saying metallica are still a metal band, i class them both as heavy rock

he's not even nu-metal... i resent nu-metal, but wouldn't go as far as to include Fieldy in my huge general assumption. Fieldy just plain ol' SUCKS. Consider this thread an education and be gone!!!

Nu-metal is the same thing as hair metal, only real difference is that instead of poofy hair and spandex, nu-metal has dreads and baggy pants. And more uses of the good ol' F-bomb.
Is it hard rock, under that vauge umbrella of "rock" or "rock 'n roll?" Yeah. It's (hard) rock. Is it metal? As much as Stryper was.
