Dude, I don't care if Fieldy influenced you to play. The guy from Nirvana made me pick up a bass, but that doesn't make him good or anything. In fact, after 3 months of playing I realized how much he sucks. But anyhow, I hope this thread introduced you to some real bass players.

well Ryan Martine being my bass idol i would say i know metal bass players..just cause i like fieldy doesnt mean i dont know what you call real metal bassists. Stop being a jerk!

I was half-kidding in a very sarcastic way... good and bad are way too subjective to ever be agreed upon. People do get carried away with the sub-genres though.

no of course they are nu-metal meaning they arent metal in any way. Dude music evolves with time, i think its time you realise that nu-metal is metal for this generation.

Im not saying its better than 'real' metal but its still metal like it or not

They're not all Swedish. I belive Sean is from the UK originally and Martin from Uruguay.

Michael's bass playing when I saw DT live really impressed me. I don't think I've ever seen bass in a metal band that was so articulate and clear live. If you've never seen him in person you can't get the full measure of his ability, I don't think he uses even half his talent on the recordings.

You are correct but I didn´t have the energy to write and exclude Sean. I´m pretty sure Martin lives in Sweden these days though. It´s our hidden agenda: We are gonna snatch all latin rythmsections and place them in progressive metalbands so everyone thinks we actually can play bass and drums up here in the north. :D

Saw Dark Tranquillity at the Gates of Metal festival last month and Mikael was on fire so I´ll definatly agree that he doesn´t show all his talent on the albums. He just played so effortless and every note was crystal clear. :bassist:

Because I'm sure everyone will mistake guys named Lopez and Mendez for genuine nodic spawn...:)

Both Martins now live in Stockholm with the rest of Opeth. Supposedly they got the gig because Lopez (who was in Sweden already drumming for Amon Amarth) saw adds Opeth had placed around various music stores saying they had open auditions. Being a massive fan of Opeth he called Mendez (an old buddy from Uruguay) and convinced him to move to Sweden to try out as a pair, since they'd played together in previous bands they figured they'd have a better shot collectively than seperate.

To increase their chances even further they went around to every place Opeth had posted ads and ripped them all down so no one else would show up.
