I didn't come up with it. I just quoted it from a post in another thread. I do that a lot, so many witty sigworthy things get tossed out on this page. :)

I think Jeff was mentioned earlier. I've personally never been that enamoured with his playing. He's good, plays what works but doesn't do much out of the box. Supposedly his solo stuff since then is very good, but I haven't heard it.

I met Carcass at a show many years ago. They were cool guys. Its really a shame what happened to Ken Owen though, his drum work on Heartwork has yet to be topped for that genre.

Have u heard that new stuff? they're sellouts, nothing metal happening there anymore. Come on, TV Radio or whatever? Although i guess their bassist is good, if you dig on slapping and all. I always thought they were just a gimmick band.

The really tragic, ironic part is, everyone wrote them off because of the facepaint; meanwhile, LD 50 was a pretty good rock album. Then, they took off their face paint, and everyone said "Yeah, but they did wear the face paint..." and continued to write them off. Now they're fully out of the gimmick thing, and the music sucks major balls (even compared to LD 50, not just the music measuring stick in general).

So where's the irony in this? They were much better before they dropped the gimmick. Go figure.

Yeah that is funny yet sad, never thought of it like that. LD 50 was cool as far as 2001 Nu-metal goes, one of the better albums of that horrible period in modern music. Actually, if you take away their bassist (and makeup), it's pretty average anyway. And thats kinda what they've done since: bassist toned down on the gimmicky slapping, band lost the makeup, now they ARE just boring! :rolleyes:

No one mentioned Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold? His Basswork on City of Evil is very impressive, granted, it's my first A7X album, so I'm not familiar with what his playing was like on the previous works.

The 2 times I saw them he was dead on. I agree that he follows the guitar line 95% of the time but what else could he do on an album like Reign In Blood?

MHO is that without him, Slayer would not be the band they are. They pioneered a metal genre and did it without ANY mainstream support. He should get credit for that alone. Again just my humble opinion.

I wouldnt say they are boring, Atleast not Martinie's playing, He didnt stop the slapping on Lost & Found. And compared to most of the current emo/pop-punk/bullsh*t bands that are out now, They own. They took off the make up because thats the only reason people were going to see their shows, Atleast thats what I read in some interview. I tell you this, I like much more hearing them on the readio the nhearing crappy boring Greenday, My Chemical Romance, Simple Plan and those crap fest bands who call themselves the punk. :scowl: :rollno:

I agree, but not for his bass playing. His voice is a large part of what made Slayer who they are, cause i can't imagine anyone else singing those tunes. And he has a great headbanging style :cool:

Slayer's rhythms aren't anything special at all. Straight 8ths, 16ths, mostly E pedals (actually E flat, if we're splitting hairs). No groove to worry about, and the guitars fill so much space you can't hear the bass after the soundcheck anyway. Tom does his job... can't imagine them with anyone else on bass, not sure if that's a compliment though... ;)
