Metal bassists that use jazz basses?

Martin Mendez from Opeth uses a Marcus Miller signiture Jazz, you don't get much more Jazz than that!

if anyone has ever heard of the band Baroness (WHO IS ****ING AMAZING) their bass player is using some sort of jazz (not sure if its a fender) I just bought their album because I saw they got the #1 album of 07' in Revolver magazine and then checked their myspace and liked their music and found a video where the guy is playing a jazz gets a good tone out of it too couldn't tell if it was a fender or not due to the fact that theres 0 pics of the band playing and the video I saw had terrible angles/lighting since the band is newish/starting out.

Frank Bello from Anthrax use to have that J-bass with all the signatures on the pickguard. He may have lost it in their studio fire. Now he has a signature P/J bass from Fender.

Ryan from mudvayne, while he doesn't use a Jazz bass he is trained in jazz and it is quite apparent in his playing (much of the time)...

he doesnt play a jazz bass, but he has 4 Warwick Thumb that have MEC jazz pickups, and a Warwick Vampire, which has a Jazz in the neck, and Double Jazz in the bridge.

Used to is more accurate. Since the reunion with Rob Halford Ian Hill's been using Spector basses live including a very nice double neck.

he used a fender jazz on all albums up until 'british steel.' hes used spectors ever since

I play in a melodic death metal band (think Opeth with no brain cells), and I used a fretless JB-V (CIJ Fender Jazz) on some of our recent recordings. I also have a 24v, which is a bit of a heretic's Jazz bass, but I love it.

why not? the type of pickup is what makes your sound, not the body shape
