i thought he played fretted, and i think his bass has soaps, but i could be wrong.

Steve Harris played a Jazz bass first.

We all know his famous 70s P bass, but before that he had a sunburst jazz bass, with blocks IIRC, I have a B&W pic of it, it's in the book "Running Free."

he used a sunburst fender jazz before they were signed. watch the early years documentary and theres a bunch of pics of him using it

Jared Warren of Karp/Big Business (and now the Melvins) fame appeared to be using a Fender Jazz Bass during the show, although I was unable to see it closely.

I just saw him play, and he was using a Lakland P. Sounded great though.

Sanders' gear includes a Fender Prophecy II, Fender American Standard Jazz, Ibanez SRX700, Godlyke Deity 4-string bass, and a Yamaha RBX Series Bass. Typically, Sanders tunes his bass down one full step (D,G,C,F), although for some songs (e.g. "Iron Tusk," "Circle of Cysquatch," "Aqua Dementia," etc.) he drops the lowest string down to A (A,G,C,F). His amplifiers consists of mainly Mesa/Boogie and Ampeg heads and cabinets. He likes to use effects such as the Electro Harmonix Big Muff as well as a Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard Fuzz.

Never seen Steve play jazz with pick.. that was kinda weird And I think he played guitar chords almost the whole song.. interesting... (despite the fact that they are miming)

Ryan from mudvayne, while he doesn't use a Jazz bass he is trained in jazz and it is quite apparent in his playing (much of the time)...

but for renowed metal bassist, the only guy I can think of is the Rosetta bassist, which is a pretty obscure sludge/doom band :S

i don't fink hes using a pick, hes just strumming with his thumb. either way don't really matter much. he used fingers on the recording, i know that for sure
