Metalheads

ive been a metal fan since i heard my first kiss album in first grade, that was well over 30 years ago.i love most metal genres but i really am not found of this new corperate rebellion metal (screamo and deathcore). not that there arnt great bands in these genres i just think its kinda like fake metal and most of the bands are unorigenal mtv bands copying off of each other. im also not found of operatic and screaching vocal bands like candlemass, overkill, helloween and meatloaf. not that they arnt great bands and 100% metal, just not my thing but i love king diamond and mercyful fate (my fav) : /.

Did you just knock Meatloaf?

damn that hellcat is badass lol ^ ^

jealous of you yanks having the summer slaughter tour, it looks awesome this year :( decapitated and cephalic carnage are just two if i remember?

i like my death, black and grind best, but i love melodic death, doom, some metalcore and prog as well.

im fussy about clean vox, prefer screams or growls. gimme aaron stainthorpes clean singing from My Dying Bride anyday tho ^ ^

im a metalhead that plays in a thrash band but have likes from all genres from rock/hard rock to doom/black metal...

lately though I have been getting into stuff like cynic/spiral architect/obscura etc...

I prefer music I can sing to so hence stuff like metallica, machine head, slipknot, tool, godsmack, coal chamber, original black sabbath, seem to be on my mp3 stick at the moment...

don't mind brutal stuff and I love the energy/appreciate the talent but can't listen to it for long before I get bored,...

my one big thing is I can't get into 'core bands' that much, some of them are really talented but lots of breakdowns and synchronised moves take away from the epicness of a band just enjoying music to me... (example, saw bless the fall recently and thought they were decent but the stage antics put me off...)

I know its their music and I wont judge them but not my thing...

going to see metallica in november and going to festival with iron maiden, slayer, stone sour, devil driver, 36 crazyfists, ill nino, all that remains, the sword,... lots of nice bands to see :D

last years had bands like isis, baroness, meshuggah, trivium... quite lucky cos for ages Adelaide in Australia NEVER got big bands visiting them...

edit: two fav singers have to be maynard from Tool and Wayne static from static X, I love how he does the whole agressive growl but still semi clean so you can hear what he says! Seeing them with lacuna coil, devil driver and megadeth was one awesome concert!

Obscura! damn that guy is insane ^ ^ as lazarus (if we're talking the Burst album nice one too) says theres plenty of crazy bass in extreme metal, nice list. alex webster (cannibal corpse) is probly my favourite cause he kicks ass but also seems the nicest down to earth guy in interviews and stuff.
it can be hard to pick up the bass in a lot of metal due to the bass of the guitars and the kicks, theres generally a lot more noise to go through than in other stuff (in black metal one can wonder if there is indeed a bass player present ^ ^), but some really stand out like Obscura. im struggling with my fingerstyle just now (ive only been bassing for a few months, previously a guitar guy) to hit higher tempos. i can go pretty fast, but its at the cost of some precision and i tire pretty quickly, so i switch between that and a pick.
suppose its just practise and more practise. (i am trying to use 3 fingers Webster style)

Just a heads up for fans of metal:

A friend of mine just turned me on to a band called ANUBIS' GATE. Flat-out wow! The band displays numerous influences of metal. I can't (at present) pigeon hole them into any specific genre of metal, though they do lean towards the progressive end. The vocals are similar to Lance King's during his stint with PYRAMAZE and if there is a weak spot, it's that the vox are often over effected. That being said, ANUBIS' GATE is getting extensive play in my truck.

I dig 'Em and highly suggest checking them out.

As an aside, my band, HEDDA, is back in the studio starting tonight and working through the weekend to record 2 new tracks.

Rock On, Metal Out!

Don't feel like this is your old age talking! ;) Most death metal fans have a pretty solid hatred for the screamo/deathcore music and scene. It's essentially the equivalent of 90s nu-metal, except even less original. Obviously catered to a certain "scene" audience to sell the most merch via Hot Topic. Most of the deathcore music is 3+ minutes of rehashed breakdowns. If that's what someone likes to listen to, I'm not going to knock them for it. But from a musical stand point it is pretty awful :ninja:

I can say that I find just as much originality in metalcore as I do in thrash, groove, stoner, power, speed, and death metal. Sure, there's mainstream metalcore bands that are predictable (Blessthefall and Vanna come to mind), but hell almost every sub-genre has had "mainstream" bands at some point in time. And I actually like a fair amount of nu-metal...

Just a protip, since I'm a genre nazi.
Screamo-Orchid, Saetia, I Would Set Myself On Fire For you
Not the deathcore or metalcore stuff that get's labled it now adays.
I saw that in the thread, so I figured I'd clear up any discrepancies.

Had the last 3 days off and i've been blaring Ozzy, Black Sabbath and some of these new suggestions like Trivium and Anubis Gate.

Keep em coming :hyper:

I do love my metal, pretty much all genres of it... Allthough my top 3 favorites are Thrash (metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Violence), Melodic Death Metal (children of bodom, in flames, Dark Tranquility), and Power Metal (blind guardian, sonata arctica, etc)...

+ the classics like Iron Maiden, Dio, Sabbath...

and metalcore (killswitch, all that remains)

and progressive stuff... Opeth!

ok so I like a lot of metal

Wait, I don't see where the good stuff is! ;)

I will say though, I did not like White Chapel when I saw them with Trivium. :(
