Metalheads

You know what's worse than Attack Attack... I feel bad for even saying their band name but...

BrokeNcyde

:hiding:

That is the absolutely worst band I can think of [DEL]that is remotely 'metal'.[/DEL]
They make Attack Attack look like Maiden... :crying:

BrokenCyde has to be weaponized music from Al Queda, there's no other possible explanation for something that horrifically bad.

Anyways, I've been listening to a LOT of Converge lately. Within the past few weeks I've bought Jane Doe and Axe to Fall, VERY good stuff. I'm still undecided as to which I like more though. I also bought the new Torche EP last week, but that hasn't arrived yet. I'm excited for that too, it sounds amazing. It'll be interesting to see where they go without Juan. Oh and I listened to the new Intronaut album earlier today, great stuff there. For lack of a better term, it's kinda like stoner prog.

im in a hardcore band right now. at first it was more of a joke but all the music kind of grew on me. ive grown up listening to bands like maiden and metallica too. i know bands like attack attack! and asking alexandria arnt as metal as others but, some other people like to listen to them too.

I'm starting up a hardcore/post-hardcore band right now. Not going to get much for respect from "metal" guys and gonna get ignored by "rock" fans, but it's fun as hell to play. I love me a good mosh.

I personally am not really into being a "genre nazi"

I don't know the difference between half the genres out there. Some stuff I like, some I don't. The labelling has never really mattered to me.

I knows what I likes to listen to :)

If you are liking Converge, may I recommend Botch. We Are The Romans, is a great album.

ive always been more of a punk / hardcore / desert kinda guy.

when i was in high school, metal meant bad hair and makeup and lots of neon spandex ... so i'm a wee bit jaded. never could take the whole metal image seriously after that.

faves:
karma to burn
kyuss
speeddealer
avail
iceburn
gorilla biscuits
pantera
FFDP
list goes on and on ...

I've heard the whole thing before, great indeed! I need to buy it sometime though.
Stabbing the Drama - good album. And 'melodeath' - that's about right. It's a good blend of grunts and harmonies.

Yup, pretty apt description of melodeath. I have to give Soilwork credit for one thing, their probably the least copied of all the Swedish bands from that genre. If I hear too many more aped At The Gates or Dark Tranqullity riffs I might just throw up.

I would love the guys tearing apart what others are listening to to post what "metal" is. Is it long hair? Is it annoyingly high pitched singing? Is it some boring guitar solo that kills the mood of the song? No those are stereotypes of this genre and I would love to inform some that music evolves and spins off into other things.

Maybe its not straight up "metal" but it carries along aspects of it and adds new things.

If this just a straight "metal" thread then 90% of people should remove what has been posted because if you slap your bass, do super low screaming, use a sample, cut a head off a goat and throw it in the crowd you are not playing metal.

Lighten up, you don't have to like everything that's not what I'm saying because I hate most music I hear nowadays because no one trys to be different.

Anyway anyone into Periphery? They are simply amazing! They probably are too metal for some because they make "metal" look pretty weak. ;)

I'm not anal about genres, but Attack Attack! is not metal. That's just crap, sorry.

Periphery's okay, I'm not a huge fan of their singer. As far as djent-y stuff goes I'm a big fan of Animals As Leaders. Tosin Abasi is a flat out incredible guitarist.

Alright, 'ere we go..

Asphyx
Behemoth (mostly the newer Blackened Death stuff)
Black Sabbath
Bolt Thrower
Candlemass
Death
Electric Wizard
Exodus
High on Fire
Lair of the Minotaur
Megadeth (although I haven't really enjoyed the last couple of albums)
Metallica (mostly the old stuff)
Nile
Om
Isis
Ramesses
Rammstein
Sleep
Solitude Aeturnus
Testament
Wintersun

Yeah its funny I was listening to Periphery again today after not listening to them for about 2 weeks and I was thinking the singer sounded a little blah too. Thier music is great but certain stuff the singer does starts to bug me.

I dont know if anyone decided to check out Across the Sun or not but we did a gig with these guys about 2 months back. They are from Oregon and just signed with Metal Blade Records. After seeing them play before us(I dont know how that happened :) it was our first show) but they have something special. They mix death metal screams( for the most part, throw some higher screams in here and there and the singing is great. The music is awesome too. I know they got thier stuff up on myspace.
