I think that it would have been in extremely poor taste to have Junior audition for the spot.

I'm glad that Trujillo got it. The other players were probably up to the task and everything, but the guy has stood out on every recording I've ever heard him play on. That Stingray he picked was awesome. Good choice, Rob!

The best bass player moment for me was when the girl beat out a bunch of frat boys to jam with Metallica, and sounded pretty decent doing it despite being nervous and not warmed up.

She looked pretty damn cool. Especially compared to the other idiots that came...Lars looked pretty impressed.

Speaking of looks, am I the only person that noticed during a lot of the "therapy/healing" scenes Kirk having this "what the hell are you people talking about?" look on his face? :p Loved his Traffic School scene, btw...

I just looked at some individual frames from the tryouts where they're playing "Battery" and I didn't see him use his ring finger at all. I'm going to guess two also.

My favorite Kirk scene was when he got all riled about the guitar solo thing. I also thought it was great when Lars and James start arguing about something and his response is to close his eyes and slap his forehead.

What a great movie. I definitely understand why St Anger was such an awful album now, and I might download and listen to the next one they make.

Jeordie White is playing for Trent on the up coming tour, and may have done some work in the studio too, but not sure.

I would doubt that either of these two would ever be "out of worK" Especially Lohner, the guy has played with everybody and seems to have connections all over the place. What ever happened to "The Damning Well"? That had potential, Lohner, Wes Borland and Richard Patrick, can't remember who was drumming. I think he is getting more into film work lately as well.

I really hope you are wrong about APC. Though not suprising. I would be pretty annoyed if I was Billy, its his band, not a Maynerd "side project". I doubt this is the last we will see of Howerdale, the man is too cool, and has a great ear.

This may have been covered in another thread, but I'm curious to know the amount of TB'ers who sent in audition tapes to Metallica after Jason quit.

I'll step right on out in the open. I sent one in. Not sure if they ever got it, but hey, why not?

I've been meaning to go rent this for a while now. I think I'll try to catch it this week. If only they would have gotten a bass player first before they made St. Anger. The bass sounds like crap, but then again so does everything else. I bought it when it first came out, and it is much better to watch the practice room DVD with Trujillo than listen to the record. Bob Rock has got to go!

Yeh I just finished watching the DVD,rob is an absolute legend on bass. I noticed how when they showed the individual bassists doing "For whom the bell tolls", rob got it sounding closest to the original,

Twiggy Ramirez sounded pretty bad I thought. That girl bassist was really good as well, the guys trying bass before her sounded crap.

I totally underestimated the skill and technique of Trujillo, I eagerly wait to see his input on future metallica projects, or what his solos are like..

Rob is the man. He is one of the best players out there. I don't quite dig his technique but he is a fierce player nonetheless.

Didn't Cliff record that playing with just his fingers? As I recall Cliff only played with his fingers...

I THINK ROB T. IS WAY TOO GOOD OF A BASS PLAYER TO BE IN METALLICA. YOU KNOW THAT JAMES AND LARS WILL NOT LET HIM CUT LOOSE. I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE ERIC AVERY GET AN AUDITION. :)

Best bit in the entire film was when Lars played his old man some new songs, and when asked his opinion,his dad just says, "delete that"!

I used to think the same way back, when he played with Ozzy. But then I met Titi Lapolla (argentinian metal band A.N.I.M.A.L.'s bassist) who happens to be a Fernandes endorser and has various 6-string Gravity basses (back when they were made in 6-string version) but his, unlike the ones Robert uses, were absolutely stock. I was absolutely amazed! I also own a Stingray 5, but for live use (for the battle, you know) I found they are nice, so I bought two 5ers and am very happy with them.
