Rob is defintely a great bassplayer and Infectous Grooves rocked alot! The only thing I kinda don't like is his stage precense, it's just too flashy for me.
I really hope they incorporate him in the writing proces for the next album. Could be neat.

Rob is an Excellent Bassist, he broght an interesting approuch to playing Metallica songs quit diffrent to the way Jason would play them.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool when James said "You make us play better".
You can see the respect they have for Rob compaired to Jason, they're still laughing about how much they use to rag him. They said Jason would have dove under a bus if it ment he could join Metallica. Rob had his whole summer booked playing for Ozzy, they said if they asked Rob to dive under a bus, he would have said "Go F*** yourselves."

Scott Reeder from Kyuss also auditioned but really no one sounded like Trujillo!!!

I thought it was funny how the Metallica guys thought it was amazing that he could keep up in battery with his fingers and not use a pick... When will they learn 
do they mention anything about why they didn't audition David Ellefson?

Agreed. I actually can play Battery with my fingers much easier than a pick. Disposable Heros, on the other hand... after 8 minutes, my hand is pretty much shot.

I would bet a fair amount of money that perhaps his audition was using instruments downtuned 1/2-step (which Metallica has done the past few recordings) and compared to the others in the montage sounds out of key. By all accounts Jeordie grew up a \m/etalhead and very much into Metallica, and I can't imagine him screwing it up.

Plus, if sitting back and doing high-profile remix and production work is being "out of work", someone needs to fire me. 
I think the interesting "behind the scenes" view from the "This Monster Lives" companion book is that after the first round of auditions Jeordie was Lars' top choice (and would have shifted the "power block" in Metallica to his side) while James favored Pepper due to his "down home" vibe (and shifted the power in his favor.) Jeordie ended up taking himself out of the running, saying something to the effect of "I was the guy who wore a dress on stage with Manson, it simply wouldn't work", they called Rob and a few others back for a second round, and the rest is history... and actually gives Kirk a chance to be heard, given his friendship and mutual shared interests with Rob.
I truly think it was much less about the technical aspects of playing and more "the hang" - they simply couldn't have a repeat of Jason's situation. The book describes Rob's first audition, and Lars offering to make him some coffee or tea. Kirk, somewhat awed, stated "In 14 years you never once offered to make Jason tea", and Lars replied along the lines that he's trying not to make the same mistakes twice. Also the scene getting a bass for Rob and stating sullenly, "Jason took all of his when he left" - umm, they're his!! Those two alone show just how "much" Jason was respected as a musician and ultimately a friend and bandmate
I can understand "politically" why Junior wasn't given a audition... however, I really wanted to see Mike Inez take a shot at it. He was my personal bet as to who would have been called up, and I think he would have killed.

I'm suprised Mike Inez didn't try out, I thought they were friends, you would think he had a shot.
I wonder if James would let Pepper sing lead on some songs if he made it in. I bet the harmonys would be sweet with those two. That's one thing I'll say, I liked Jasons singing a lot better then Robs. Rob doesnt sing half of the stuff Jason did, Kirk is singing a lot these days though.

Exactly - they knew each other previously (on the AIC Unplugged, his "Friends don't let Friends get Friends haircuts" message on his bass was a light-hearted jab at Metallica, who were in the front row right in front of him during the taping) and had just undergone the shearing) and he's got more than his fair share of chops. I can only imagine he's had more than his share of touring with Ozzy, AIC, and Jerry Cantrell. I suppose he's happy playing more laid-back with Heart currently.
I don't have any trouble playing Battery (with fingers of course, I suck with a pick), but I always had a bit of trouble with the rhythm in the verses of Disposible Heroes.Benjamin Strange said:
