Far as I know Voivod is still going strong (in terms of still playing as a group and recording). I think Jason parted ways after getting Echobrain started..and from what I've heard that was his intent from the start.

On a side note...I thought Jeordie was doing the A Perfect Circle thing?

IIRC, Newstead was only recording with Voivod. He approached them to record with him at the bass, and he was going to release the CD through his own private label. It's possible that it evolved into him touring with them as well.

As far as Jeordie goes, I think he joined up with APC right after the tryouts with Metallica.

Back to the movie, I knew there was a riff between Dave Mustaine and Metallica, but I had no clue it was that big of an issue for both sides. It looks as if Mustaine is as messed up, if not more, than Metallica. In some weird way, I was hoping that Mustaine was going to be added back to the group. I think that would have been sort of cool.

The only thing I want to hear about for Newstead news is him releasing the Unida disc that American Recordings is holding hostage...I heard some rumors about that awhile back.

I recently watched Some Kind of Monster finally and I liked that chick they had jam with them. She could really hold her own. I think they chose Rob over her because he was more established and one of the better in the biz. I guess we'll see if he can streach a little on the next Metallica album...

glad to see some tool fans, tool is the best band of all time. but i won't go any further.

i love metallica, and love every album they've done. st. anger had some technical issues but it was extremely original and jammed more than any other Metallica album. i can't wait to hear what Robert can do with them. and he looks ****ing awesome (ripped, indian, etc.) :bassist:

the ones saying that APC is finished are the ones who believed that april fools joke that Maynard had quit music and found Jebus. Which he didn't. APC won't be back for a while, though, probably, since TooL's new album will be the greatest album ever.

Voivod's website has Jason listed as a full time member, and the bio section goes on to note that he's recorded with them in the past and that they've been friends for over 20 years. Not too shocking that he'd ultimately end up there.

As for Mustaine, yeah, that man has some serious, serious issue. He's cleaned most of them up in terms of drugs, alcohol, etc. but the legacy of all that will never really escape him. He'll always be the guy who drank too much to stay in Metallica!!! :eyebrow:

Overall I respect Dave far, far more than any of the Metallica members. Not only am I much more impressed with him as a musician (his music has actually matured over the past 20 years) but he was able to take a look at himself at one point and realize "Hey, I'm a worthless, shallow slug of a human being because of the chemicals I dump into myself daily, maybe I should do something about that!"

James and Lars are only just begining to do this, but somehow manage to come out as little more than selfish whiners in the process.

Sad how Kirk (who I once distained because he was too nerdy) is now the coolest member of the band :)

Trujillo is the guy who made me throw away all of my picks. I used to be a kid who used picks for fast stuff because I was lazy, but after watching Rob, I won't EVER touch a pick.

I actually just watched the movie yesterday due to this post :smug: I'm not a fan of Metallica, but I actually really enjoyed the film (despite the fact that they acted like babies and still write some rather ridiculous lyrics), though I was hoping for more on the auditions part. Anyway, thanks for the posts. Otherwise, I never would have watched it :p

The thing I absolutely love about Rob is that even though he's been playing professionally for yeeears, he still looks like he's a ten year old standing in front of the mirror with the tennis racket and rocking tunes pouring out of the stereo. Given who he's played with and what a legend he is, I'd have expected him to be way less enthused about it.
