Metallica or Megadeth

Which do you like better?

metallica hands down, sadly the last few albums have been a bit crap, but it's metallica!
the bass has always been fantastic though (except on ...and justice for all, which is a shame because the album kicks ass I guess Jason was a bit scared to get creative with the bass lines on that one)

What are you talking about? Cliff had 0 creativity besides his solos on FWTBT and Orion. And don't even get me started on anesthesia

You obviously aren't listening closely enough, my problem with "justice" is that the bass plays exactly with the guitars, so it is hard to distinguish it. I'm not talking song writing credits either, just playing. By that logic Lars is a song writing genius?
Maybe a marketing genius, but the man has very little musical talent (and that's me being nice).
But back on topic 3 great bassists, always great live shows that's why they get my vote.

If Megadeth's earlier albums had been originally released with anywhere near the audio quality of the remasters I dare say this would not be a contest. Megadeth killed themselves career wise by putting out poorly produced records for so many of the early years. The songs were excellent, you just couldn't hear them. Also, Mustaine comes across as sort of a dick.

You know, I have never thought of it that way before but you are 100% right. Even Rust in Peace (arguably their best album) was poorly produced and that's often considered a metal masterpiece. If the production quality was higher from Peace Sells on up they just might have been able to beat Metallica as their songs might have made it on radio more.

The man died in his twenties and left a legacy that has already lasted as long as he was alive. You might not like his style, but you could probably show some respect for a pioneering bass player.

Uh, it wasn't because Jason wasn't scared. James and Lars turned him down since they were still grieving over Cliff's death and took all their crap out on him.
