I am going to go see them on tour this summer, i dont really care for who they are playing with so i will take some Z's when their on. It funny the last summer sanitarium i didint like the bands either. I still miss Jason it is to bad they didint realize what they had.

Anyway, I downloaded some Voivod this afternoon ("Gasmask Revival" and "We Carry On") -- after listening to just "Gasmask," I have to say, I wasn't blown away.

I just downloaded and listened to "St. Anger" as well. If it's legitimate (it sure sounds like Het), I wasn't blown away with it either.
On the positive side, it does sound less like Crap and Recrap and more like Lightning.

Load and Reload weren't <i>that</i> bad, they had some good, solid tracks on them. I actually liked some of that stuff better than most of what was on Black. I don't harbor and great love for Kill 'Em All. None compare to Master of Puppets, Garage Inc., or S&M.
Never cared for Newsted, before or after I picked up my cheapo Fender P-bass knockoff. Anywhere I saw or heard him talk he sounded like a complete jackass, and he just didn't sound as good as Cliff Burton, Wall of Guitars or not.
Also: Local radio station that had been playing utter crap since the Summer (all whiny punk BS like on MTV, which has done everything in its power to ruin music as I know it) I just found out is doing Metallica songs Z-A (A-Z yesterday, but I missed that). I may be a little hazed as of writing this =D
I downloaded "St. Anger" also, and it turns out that all of the versions of this song up on the file sharing services are not metallica. They are a different band (who I cannot remember the name of at the moment, I'll post again if I remember later) that sounds quite a bit like metallica. I thought something didn't sound right about it when I first listened to it, and then I loaded it into windows media player, and it showed the name of the real band that wrote this song

That sucks. I hate it when ass clowns lable songs incorrectly. All I'm doing is stealing someone's music and look at the hassle I get for it.
Although the versus do sound like Hetfield, the chorus doesn't. And there is no mention of "St. Anger" during the entire song. I have to see if I get the word "gullible" off of my forehead now...

yeah, that's what I thought the song too. The actual name of the song I got was "Hunger" if I remember correctly

Rob was completely BAD A last night on the Icon show.
I am a huge Metallica fan. Everything that went down with Jason was unfortunate but I'm glad Rob's in the band.
You could really hear him doing cool fills and seeing him playing the speed stuff with his fingers was impressive.

Don't forget that Rob wrote and played Zero Bass on St, Anger, That was their producer Bob Rock.

Their showing they found their metal roots again, they had lost their touch in song writing but this new albem will kick ass.
Lars has seem to regain his drumming. As for guitar and bass, it sounds good but I didn't see Icon and my puter speakers are crappy so I can't get into detail about it.

That's what every band says if they get a new member. They can't say; You know he is limited and doesn't add anything to the band but we got him anyway. Jason recieved the same kind of comments I am sure upon his Metallica debut.
I heard the MTV Icon gig and I liked it. Seems like Hetfield grew tired fast though. I like Rob as a bassist I hope he'll do a good job i Metallica.

Yup. Lars is full of dookie anyways. Besides, Lars' idea of metallica sounding good is he and james bash away and once in a while they call Kirk in out of the cold to solo.... what bass player?
I think they treated the bass with respect during the Icon performance. It was heard loud and clear through the mix and all. Sure the focus lied mostly on Hetfield but the same thing could be said about many bands (Gn'R, Megadeth etc). The singer is the focus in most cases.
Though I think it is sad that they didn't wait for a steady member to play the bass on St Anger.
Hope things work out better with Rob than with Jason.
