Metal's Becoming a Cliche

This happens with everything. When I first started playing music seriously Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones were the "hot" thing in heavy music. Everyone was playing music like that, dressing like that. Now, everyone wants to sound like Killswitch. It's amazing to me how people just become clones of everyone else. Now, ALL OF A SUDDEN everyone I know is into metal and 80's metal and playing ridiculous guitar shredding songs. It's just whatever is popular in the genre people like, they just jump on it.

Me, I like some of it, but I'll be damned if I join a band that sounds like every other cookie cutter metal band there is. I'm still stuck on Nu-Metal and still playing it. I don't care if it's not what's in right now, it's what I like.

As previously posted bands like Overkill and Slayer are still putting out brutal music that simply destroys. There are still some DM metal bands out there that kill and put on a brutal show. Suffocation has to be one of the most tallented DM bands of all times. Have you ever actually listened to good DM is the question? Tuned down or not they and other DM bands have some of the most melodic music I have ever heard. Yes I play in a DM band but I also play Beatles tunes. I play what makes me happy not you. So should we all.

This is about the only interesting non overwhelmingly over the top rip on every poster metal thread I've seen.
I'm liking it.

I've read through the posts and reading the opinions has been good. I find myself( a metal band bass player) digging and digging for something good to check out all the time. I like new and different, but usually come back to what I have always liked. I think a lot of it comes from what we really started liking in our teenage years.

Somethings change over time but I'm 29 now and I still really dig old slipknot, old korn, old limp bizkit, any deftones, any mudvayne, 40 Below Summer and so on. But I also am a huge fan of trip-hop like portishead, massive attack, bjork, etc.

That said I went through the Hardcore/chewbacca-core phase about a year ago upon hearing bands like Attack Attack!, We Came As Romans. The only one I can still stomach is Woe, Is Me. Sad thing is is its a dirty little secret. These bands never progress but its what's popular with the kiddies so they keep spewing it out.

Some of our shows we have had a core band open the show and people come to us and say "these guys are just terrible" and the like. The ones who been signed have it down to a science and while boring and just blah they can make it work. The local ones its just like ***!

I still just go right back to what I have always listened too and try to write great metal tunes with my own band. I real metal not chewbacca-core.

Whewww long post. ;) Rip away boys.
