Great game, but damnit... Wainwright is a damn good pitcher, bloody ****ing hell... If it weren't for that last run by the Cards... Oh well. The Mets were the best team this season and that'd enough to boast about.
After two weeks of hearing about the bloody Tigers I'm sick of 'em already, but good luck to 'em, they blew goats for sooo long.
I'm sick of the Cards making it to the series and then losing. But I grew up an A's fan, so I'll always have a soft spot for Larussa.
Basically either way, I don't care too much.
I wanted the Mets to take it, so they could really give it to the Yankees.

I was a little gun shy about posting to this one.
But, I had to say that was a freaking AMAZING baseball game. If it was common-variety July regular season game, I would have been glued to it. In this case, I was just a wreck.
Anyway, my guys won this time around. I remain cautiously optimistic about the WS. We'll see. I fear the 'birds may have spent themselves just to get there.
I like that Mets team, but I have to say that seeing Beltran K to lose it was slightly sweet. He has butchered the Cardinals far too many times.

I could see the reflection of the game in the glass behind them... I watched that last strike and the expressions of my coworkers in the same instance

Well, I'm feeling good now, but that was a hell of a game. Bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and only up by two? And I though Chavez was going to repeat that amazing catch of his just before too. Good grief!
I went to bed shortly after the Mets loaded the bases in the 4th(?)...the bottom of the inning after Chavez' amazing theft of Rolen's "homer".
BTW, after Rolen's throwing error, McCarver said something like "...he was thinking about going to 2nd base with that throw; they may have caused the error".
Joe Buck said, "Maybe Rolen was still thinking about being robbed by Chavez just a couple minutes ago".
I know I was thinking, "Well. that's one way to put the ball safely into the seats".
Anyway, bases loaded in the 4th...Valentin looks like he has no clue & strikes out-You have got to make contact!
Then Chavez swings at the first pitch & hits a soft fly to Edmonds...you need to hit it on the ground Willie Mays Hayes!

For a Red Sox fan - this series raises all sorts of mixed emotions
Although '04 helped a lot; I am still scarred by '86. So the Mets losing is fine by me. Perhaps, the Mets drank a little too deeply from the karmic well in '86 (and '69 for that matter!) so it may be a while before you can go back.
On the other hand, to the extent a Mets victory would have ticked off the Yankees and Yankee fans, I am disappointed.
I'm also not a big fan of Tony La Russa.
On the other hand, in '04, the Cards, after posting the best record in the NL, were swept. Now they are limping in with an 83-81 record - this looks good for the Tigers who won more games this year in a much tougher league. Cards fans have got to worried about this shaping up as a repeat of '04 with the way the Tigers ran over their payoff opponents.
Tbirdbassist - I gotta qualify your statement - the Mets had the best record in the National League which is something to be proud of; but, I am one of those who believes that the NL was more of a AAAA league than a major league this year.

That might be the case... in Missouri.
But in Mississippi, come on. The Braves are much more established here. Hell, the Triple A Braves team is based in Mississippi, they're called the M Braves. I could buy a few select fans here and there, but every fourth person I've seen on campus has a Detroit or a St. Loius hat on. Maybe I'm wrong, I root for a fish after all.
