I have an oppurtunity to possibly pick up a 5 year old ampeg fridge in perfect condition for half of what they go for new.

I've seen pics but haven't had a chance to play it yet but I will soon after payday. Looks Minty to me.

Seem too good to be true? Or is this just a good deal?

I see them for $500 pretty regularly. Thats what I paid for mine. Mid 90s cab in good shape.

As long as somebody else is carrying it, there's nothing I'd rather play through!

I got my mid-90's SVT-810E for $400. Overall it's in great shape, but it's missing about 5-10% of its Tolex.

  6. I have 2 of those suckers and paid 500 for each one. Both of them have really crappy tolex but both have no damage to the grillcloth , so from 5 feet away , they both look pretty good. If this one is in good shape and preferably american made (2007 or earlier) 5 to hundred bucks is a pretty good deal. These cabs will make any head sound better than any other cab (IMHO) The american made thing is not as important with the cabs as it is with the heads. They all sound pretty much the same , but I have heard several stories from other bass players concerning the reliability of the vietnamese heads. For the cab , it's not a big deal though. I haven't heard anything bad so far about the cabs , just about reliability issues with the foreign made heads. Also.... if you cop an SVT head in the future , I promise you you will be in bass heaven. Good luck and rock on

The Vietnam heads were only from 2007-2008.

Got mine for 100. It was beat up like crazy and the owner didn't know what it was. The guy who lived in his house previously left it there.

I have read several times here on TB that there was a run of the 810 cabs in the 2000s, I think made in Viet Nam, that sound different than the rest. I think "sounds darker" is the description I've read, and the poster(s) feeling is that they prefer any other era of the 810.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what years are preferred. And even if I could, I couldn't tell you how to look at an 810 and tell what year it was made. But, I *think* the "made in Viet Nam" 810s are the ones that are NOT liked as much. And I think those were made in the mid-2000s. So, the one you're looking at could be one of those.

The "Dark Era" cabs are US made. 2000-2007. Mine is one of those cabs and I love it very much so...

Most people actually like the Vietnampeg cabs.

It's 5 years old he says, so it's from around 07-08 I would imagine. He sold his head already so I gotta lug my big heavy tube head over there to try it but for 600 it seems like a fair deal to me.

It is likely a Vietnampeg, which as I said, most people dig. Not as much as the old flatbacks, but most people like them better than the cab I have. They are plywood, not particle board. $600 isn't a great deal, but it's ok, especially if it is in good condition. I would think you could find them cheaper though.

I've been looking on CL the past few weeks and most people are wanting 700-900 for theirs. I even saw a 610hlf on there for 800 firm. LOL

If it's a LOUD Electronics cab, it's sweet regardless of where it's from. Like Floyd said, they use plywood instead of OSB, and the speakers are brighter and IMHO better, all respect to Floyd ;)

There's a guy here in Ohio that is selling his 810E and CL rig for $2300. He's had it for sale for a long time; no one will pay that much.

It's the only Ampeg cab I have ever owned so it isn't like I can speak with any authority about which is better. I can't even say that I like mine better because I have never had a different one. All I can say is that I like mine a lot. I do have plans on getting another one though so I would imagine I will be able to A/B them before too long. With any luck they will sound awesome together because the fact is I just don't have enough crap to schlep around to all these bars I play in.:D

I am picking up an 810e and usa cl head for 1100...got lucky with a moving sale. I agree 600 is on the high side of average from what I've seen for 810s. Not great, but not unreasonable if its in good shape.

LOL! Me, I'm taking it easy today on the schlep. Our gig is on a very small stage and sightlines are odd so I'll be toting the ol' BA110 today. But I've been very good about bringing the SVT since I got it ;)
