Suprisingly, I dig him alot. Thats impressive as I really don't like Green Day that much. But I personally acredit him as the best bassist in 'Punk' right now, and probably the best in 'Punk' through the 90's. Or ever. Its a genre over saturated with bassists stuck on the root notes, and he does well to get away from that.
He reminds me of John Entwistle, in the sense that most fans who aren't bassists, or musicians at all, and just love the music, mistake his fills for Guitar lines. Billie Joe can't solo, but a lot of what Mike does underneath him might as well be a solo. I'm sure Billie gets a lot of credit where credit wasn't due from those who are unsuspecting.
