It's unfortunate when people can't simply appreciate a good person just because they have different beliefs.

Some people interpret beliefs as illuminating the underlying "goodness" of a person. This is especially true when said beliefs are interpreted as harmful to said people. I'm not saying whether that's good or bad; it just is.

Just playing devil's advocate here but from a different point of view, it could be said, It's unfortunate when people look past a bad person simply because they have the same beliefs.
Yes, it would be a real shame to look past a friendly post about a celebrity playing a bass, on a forum for bass players, without virtue signaling our displeasure with Christian Conservatives.

He's not a famous musician, though; he's a prominent politician. These are not the same thing. There is no "separating the art from the artist" here. His entire public persona is being a conservative christian/elected politician. In that roll, he has taken real actions that have real effects on people's lives. Sure, he plays bass, but that's secondary, just like bill clinton tooting his saxamaphone.

Frankly, referring to him as simply a celebrity playing bass is a bit reductive.
