Mike Lull progress pics...

here it is as it shipped ( including the extra white guard ) - I have a feeling I will have that white guard on there more than the clear for some reason. We talked about a mint or parchment but I could not decided so i took the white one. Kinda classic 70's look meets fancy top and no plate. The no plate doesn't bother me at all. There is a very up and coming builder in NYC that uses no plate and I like the look- some Marleux's also come that way. This is not my favorite angle to photograph a J bass and it's a bit glary, but I will have a better idea tomorrow when the bass arrives.
More importantly, I am very curious as to how it sounds.

Awesome, Adrian!! :hyper:

She's here and if I can manage to get my paws off it long enough, I will give a quick report but so far so good. Just finding the voice- Same preeamp as my Nordy and Nordy sc pups but it sounds different- which goes to show every bass has it's own tone- I bet two identical basses would sound totally different. The playability is beautiful- these necks take a great setup. Back to the woodshed...

well, she made her debut tonight. Sounded great, and plays effortlessly.
I am still zeroing in on gig tones, i know the pre well but not with these pups and bass. Plus I had the new GK Neo10's for the first time. Wow, come to think of it, brand new rig and bass on the same night. The 35 in scale thing? Yes, I felt a difference but it wsn't a bad thing. I gave it my own homegrown setup and it really does play like butter. I played my last set on my Nordy and it felt like home, but the Lull is quite the bass. I am very happy with my basses.

Let me know about the 35" scale. I have been a fan of the Lull basses for a while and would love one of his 5's but I'm hesitant having never played one before....

Hey wcb,
I have medium-sized hands, and I personally didn't have any problems switching from a 34" scale to a 35" scale. IMO Lull's neck profile is very comfortable.

(hello D!)
I'd like to add too, that my first impressions of my Lull were that it played and felt every bit as easy and comfortable as my old Fender Tele - which 'was' my favorite player. I've had some short term GAS for a few other basses, mostly because I want a fretless 5er, but that little problem is always resolved with another session with the Lull. I'm not ready to jump in yet, but when I do, it may just be another Lull - fretless M5 - oh yea... time to wipe up the drool....:D

You know, that does make sense...I would assume that the neck profile has more to do with hand fatigue than the actual scale lengh... Now all I need to do is find a 5 string Lull to try. :help: anyone?

Mark

here is a not so great pic of the bass with the white guard, which it has on now- it's nice to abe able to change the look back and forth.
Played it in a show over the weekend and a session yesterday and the Nordies sound amazing with the Audere. The bass plays itself. Mark, Ryan is selling his. I have felt no issues with the 35 scale on this bass and it is very light and comfy.

How is the noise with the SC Nordy PU's? How does the sound compare with your Nordy Vj5? Looks great Adrian. I like the clear pick guard better. But the white is sort of cool. may as well try a tort! ;-)

You know the only thing I don't like when the guard is on without a control plate is that the bevel does not continue along the entire edge of the guard. It's the same issue I have with the Alleva-Copplo bass pickguards. I think if you beveled the notch where the control plate should be it would be a much more finished and appealing look.

This is just the opinion of a VERY SMART AND GOOD LOOKING MAN. :hiding:

Gary, the noise is minimal with the singlecoils. Carey did a great job of shielding the pups and Mike shielded the cavity very well so no noise issues that I can name.
The sound is very close to the Nordy which is great because it gives me a constant. I AB'ed them and there is definitely a "Nordy/Audere" thing going on which is a common thread.
I am digging the white guard for now, but it is easy enough to change as my mood does, I guess. The tone of the bass is very happening, and again, the thing plays itself. I am very happy with it, and with both basses.

Adrian,

After watching your progress, I became more interested in Mike's basses and picked up Ryan L.'s M4. I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival. :hyper: I would love a Nordy, but I'd have to pick up a 3rd job to make that happen. :hmm:

A very smart and good looking man? I doubt it ;) but a man with a great and simple idea...yeah. :)
