Why can't it be used? Didn't the plan with the extra rear block work?

After going back and reading again I noticed the mention of chrome dome audio. I have spoken with Adam the SOUL owner and have brought him up to speed. Mike is not partners with him!

Please do not let mikes action hinder your opinion of chrome dome.

Adam is making an account here soon to further comment of the his behalf.

Here is why it can't be used.

This is supposed to be a 38" scale bass.

The neck blank tapers to just over 1/2" thick at 32" from the thickest end.

The Neck blank is still rough sawn on the back, so there is not enough material to put into the rear taper jig to get a nice flat and straight transition from headstock to heel.

The face of the blank is NOT flat and needs to be surfaced which will remove more material, making the neck blank remainder even thinner.

Hopefully this clarifies it.

Can't you add surface the blank and add another layer on the face of it? I would add another cool wood accent.

That just sucks..! how was he planning to build that bass anyway..

Can a 1/4" or 5/8" veneer be added to the front face of the neck and then the fretboard gets glued to that veneer ? This way the back of the neck will still show the lams. Also you could use a veneer of the same wood to thicken the heel the way you planned it..I can imagine that to look pretty good..

I cannot believe after all this Mike has the balls to send an unusable blank and 300 bucks worth of hardware. This is the very definition of why lynch mobs are assembled. The only way it appears this blank is servicable is a-la the Linc Luthier style of neck building...which at this point would be a stretch, and you'd lose all aesthetic appeal / benefit from that sandwich.

Amending my sig.

I hope I can still find the facebook posts where Mike refers to his "amp shop" an getting his switches etc there. He also made a statement to the effect of "Mike Wayne Instruments are my labour of love and I'm not in it for the money, but Chrome Dome Audio is a different story". Since he posts 100 times a day on facebook, I might not be able to find the remarks, but I will look after work. He may have also deleted any references made since he as ample time to do so.

I publicly apologise to Adam (I have already spoken with him via PM)

That said, without Mike inferring or stating so, how on earth would I associate him with a boutique amp builder I had never heard of in a country I have never been to?

Yes you could, ths is something I posed as an option to Alex, but with the scale of what the original instrument is supposed to be, it would be a waste and just look makeshift. I am gong to put a complete new blank together that is properly sized for this instrument.

Let me explain further for those that might query further. The reason I will also not add material to the face after I get the surface flat is that the more material that is added, the more of the laminate look that wll be lost, thus making for and even worse looking blank. A completely new blank is the proper way to go so that the form and function are both appealing.

We will find a use for the blank at a later date for Alex.
