Mini Rigs of Doom Four

IMO, the D800 will not disappoint. Early adopters are saying there are lots of great tones in that amp... and I agree. In fact this is my current fav setting.

I'm thinking after a bit of reading that these new amps may be louder than my BB750.

As I type this, I just saw a Mesa D-180 at a local store and am being drawn to it because I'm a tube fan and it's $600 and in great shape. Ugh.

FWIW, the only micro heads I've found that can compete with the slam of my DB750 are the GK MB800 and MB Fusion 800. I'm sure JGR's head will more than compete, as well.

Not sure what features constitute a "mini rig of doom"...

Lots of people share this confusion. Some have said the requirement of a mini rig is to be able to carry it all (everything you need for the gig) by hand from the car to the ‘stage’ in one pass.

@emblymouse in what appears to be the very first post in this epic thread (back in October of 2006) lists the following:

  • Pignose B100V is 100W of all tube goodness. Plugged in to-
  • Bag End S-15 makes for a smokin' littlle Ampeg Portaflex on steroids.
  • Add the optional GK MiroBass 12" ext. cab for more high mid clarity and...
  • My BassBone pumps up the low end on the 8 string and acts as a master volume for natural grit.

This does not appear to meet the carry all by hand in one pass criteria.

For more info there is an older thread on the topic titled, “Should we DEFINE "Mini Rig of DOOM!!!"???

Have fun! :woot:

Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification. Based on those criteria, these two setups qualify as "mini rigs of doom".

Just a tad "over-kill" GK MB800 (doom) - NEO 112 - So far, no amp can knock the MB800 from the top of my list.

15 watt of gooeyness.... (low watts still doom?) Ashdown CTM 15 - 112 NEO

Great looking rigs!
I picked up a GK MB800 a few weeks ago, I currently have two David Eden d112xlt cabs, but looking to get something different. How do you like the neo 112? Curious how it handles the 500watts @ 8 ohms, can it produce nice thick, but tight lows?

This MRofD sounds awesome in my "cave" - And.... I need to grow "nads" cause it would be fine at the gigs a play. But for security, I add my NEO 212. :)
