Mini Rigs of Doom Four

Don't think I have posted this here before....it slams pretty hard. Easily one trip carry including stairs

Hey Nice setup - is that his version of the 12/6

Well, here's my "new" mini rig :D
Yesterday an idea popped into my head for a small practice amp. I have this very small hifi amp (2x5 watts) lying around and thought that maybe I can use my Taurus Tux compressor as a pre-amp. Today I soldered a cable from jack to cinch, hooked up the amp and compressor to my 8" piccolo cab and voila it works like a charm. It's more then loud enough for home practice, even an acoustic guitar gig would work

Hey Arjank, I love seeing that little 1x8 of yours, how's the other spkr. build coming and what thread was that in?

Hi Kirk Bryant, thank you! The Cyclops thread is over here and the drawings for the build are ready The Cyclops, a tweeterless 115 I also included the dimensions if other people would like to build one, there's also a list with other drivers that "work" in that cabinet.

Hey Arjan, nice idea! I still haven't gotten around to building that 8" cab :(

Terrible build quality on those Hi-Fi amps though...

I maybe do a small change on that piccolo cab, I'm going to extend the port/horn a tiny bit on the inside of the cabinet and I'm gonna experiment with a different damping material.

You know those (Conrad) hifi-amps? I have this one for like 10 years or so, it still works. The main portion of the inside of that amp is a toroidal transformer :), for the price it works excellent. And as a practice amp it goes more then loud enough and it doesn't take a lot of space in my living room.

Cool! Let me know if the plan changes, in case I ever get around to building one :p

Yeah, I had one at some point. Mine was from Ebay, though. Pollin also sells them. Fairly big toroid, yes, but the output signal distorts pretty fast past a certain point. It just felt (very) cheap and the quality of the volume pot was a joke, even for such a cheap amp.

I'll let you know (piccolo thread)

It was probably on the Pollin "restposten" LOL
Ofcourse, with only 5 watts it won't get very loud without distorting, but I think it will not even have to deliver 1 watt when I use it as a practice amp around the house. My GF walked in and told me it already was to loud ;). Well, before it distorts I probably have issues with the neighbours.
Yeah, the volume pot feels a bit whobbly but as long as it works I'm happy with it.

View attachment 737505 I will add mind. Just picked up the Berg 112cn and It sounds great with either head..
I use the TH500 and a CN112 and love it. My only complaint is that the CN is a little bulky at times, such as going down stairs, etc. especially if you are trying to carry everything else. But great tone!! And loud!! This is a very giggable small rig, have used mine a half dozen times now and have always been happy.

I'm thinking of buying a Demeter bass 400 and running it into my Berg HD112 Stack since I sold my Genz Benz streamliner and the Bergs don't get much use, I am an old Demeter fan and think the 400 watts would be adequate for most instances. It's too bad the 800 watt rig is so expensive.

I *love* that cardboard rig.
Built and used one once. I was going to a Navy school in Georgia and had no amp, but a bunch of guys wanted to get together and jam. I got an old speaker, threw together a basic amp from the spare part bin. Didn't have access to woodworking tools, but found a cardboard box, reinforced the front by gluing another piece of card board to it, and cut a hole in it. To my surprise, it worked. So we got a bottle of Tequila and had a great blues jam. We collectively wrote "Yugoslavia Fried Chicken Blues" that day.
Goin' back to Yugoslavia, Got the fried chicken blues,
Goin' back to Yugoslavia, Got the fried chicken blues,
Cause yo mama's fried chicken is just yesterday's news.
etc, etc, etc
