I went with the 1x8 and, likewise. Did a gig with the 1x8 and 1x10 cab and was pleasantly surprised.
Small cabs with small drivers are getting really good! If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be playing metal through a 36 lbs 2x10 700W cabinet up against a live drummer and several guitar cabinets, I wouldn't have believed you.

OK. something a little different for you all. its not mini, its TEENY. and it may not particularly be ‘of doom’ but don’t look at it sideways either, because, as I’m sure you’ll all agree… its a BRUTE!
This one is, i believe, the smallest relative of the Brute family with a 10” speaker stuffed into a sealed box measuring about 10x13x13!
Certainly no earth shattering lows can be expected from such a contraption, but instead, a rather authoritative mid-range BARK emanates from its diminutive stature, powered by its 90 WATT solid state amplifier.
made in North Hollywood, Ca in the late 70’s/ early 80’s. This one was probably meant more for guitar, but it and its 12” and 15” older brothers (the “Mini Brutes”) were used by many a bass slinger, particularly upright jazzers. I use it as my desktop amplifier, but i wouldn’t hesitate to take it out to the right café or garage jam. But be careful, It’s an ankle biter for sure!
