Minimum load for a Trace GP7SM 250?

On and off lurker, but my first post. You guys have a great forum here with a ton of useful info. I've done the research, read the stickies, used the search function, etc., but cannot seem to find an answer to my question.

How low can I go on my Trace Elliot GP7SM 250? The rear panel says its rated for 8 ohms, but I'm guessing I can go to at least 4 ohms safely. Can I get down to 2 ohms? I've seen some older threads where some general statements were made to the effect that most Trace heads can handle a 2 ohm load, but if anyone has any info specific to the GP7SM heads, that would be most appreciated. Would like to avoid summoning the magic smoke.

I do have what appears to be a .pdf of the manual for this series of heads but I don't see anything helpful on this question.

Thanks!

Well, unfortunately I don't have a manual that covers that exact head. Having said that, I would stick with what Trace put on there. They new what they were doing. Can you post a pic of the back panel?

As to some Trace amps being run at 2 ohms, that's scary! I have never heard of anyone running one at 2 for any length of time and definately not while in a gigging situation. Personally, I wouldn't try it.

Thanks! Sounds like running a 4 ohm load is not worth the risk. As for a photo of the rear, I unfortunately do not have a photo of my particular amp, but here is one I found online of the 150 watt version:

Like mine, it says 8 ohms. The two separate (I'm assuming parallel) 8 ohm outputs leaves me to believe this amp is designed to handle a 4 ohm load. But, again, I'm not certain. What do you think?

Thanks again.

That's what it seems like to me. But I'm not 100% sure. You could always open it up and look to see if the speaker jacks are indeed wired in parallel.
