Ministry Bass Overdrive/Distortion

Now that it's been said, I no longer need to be secretive. Paul Barker's new solo album comes out in April. There are guest vocalists all over it including Kevin Ogilvie, Taylor Momsen, Chris Connelly, Alexis Marshall, and a remix by Mat Mitchell of Puscifer. This is a really great album that's going to shock a lot of people and is going to blow the minds of the "Al Jourgensen is Ministry" hangers-on.

It's some of the best material I've actually ever heard out of Paul!

Thanks for the heads up on Paul`s new album! I got into Ministry when I was 9 or 10 with Just One Fix,N.W.O and Jesus built my Hot rod. I`ll be 31 next month. I finally got to see them live back in 2003-2004(I think?),it was awesome!
I`ve always wanted one of those EB-750s. I love hollow bodies and that bass is beautiful to me.Dude here on TB was selling one a few years back but I didn`t have the cash.

Thanks for the info on Paul's new album, I'm definitely looking forward to it next month.

Thanks also for all your informative posts Vegas. Now that I'm playing bass again, I've been turned on to some cool bands/bassists from seeing some of your posts that I wasn't aware of several months ago (I'm not talking about Paul and Ministry here haha).

Also, I'm a very excited new owner of a silicon B:assmaster with an expression jack as of earlier this week!...and I'm loving it!

I'm not loving the fact that I bought it two days prior to being bandless, so now I can't hear it in it's full glory. ;( (definitely still amped I bought it regardless of that factor though)

It's always a joy of mine to share info, knowledge, and bands that interest me with other people. There is so much great music out there that keeps getting pushed further underground as the industry continues to stifle art in lieu of the quick buck.

Congrats on the B:assmaster purchase! Playing with the expression input is lots of fun. On certain settings, you can roll it back to clean, hit some harmonics on your bass, and as you slowly rock it forward, it gives the effect of "circuit bending". This is a trick that was taught to me by my friend Steuart Liebig, who is an amazingly creative solo bass artist and composer who deserves some research into as well. :bassist:

Awesome, thanks for being generous with your gear and band knowledge or tastes, I definitely did keep in mind all of your positive posts regarding the silicon B:assmaster when I was researching what fuzz I wanted to buy first (for bass, as I have several regular guitar fuzzes, but none that worked too well with bass).

The expression pedal technique you described that you learned from your friend sounds super cool. I will A, look into his stuff, and B, try that when I get an expression pedal.

Speaking of, I was about to email malekko to ask, as I didn't see it on their site, but I'll ask you as well...do you know which expression pedals can be used with the B:assmaster? I saw the M-audio one being used in a demo video, but would love to use a metal-bodied pedal for the sake of durability with my big 'ol feet, but I've seen some manufacturers mention their pedals couldn't be controlled by certain expression pedals. I think FoxRox and Analogman (AD-900) or Keeley (AD-9) come to mind. An Ernie Ball Jr. would be sweet if it worked with the Malekko if I can make one work with it.

I'm not sure which ones are compatible. I myself use the M-Audio model with great results...as do Josh and Paul, actually. If you want metal bodied expression pedals, your best bet is going to be the Boss FV-500H, which should work with the Malekko. The main thing is that whatever you use utilizes a TRS 1/4" plug.

I look forward to seeing this film! Hopefully, it will fill in some gaps in my memory. ;)
And yes, Paul was always a really kind, sharp guy. I haven't seen him in about 20 years, but I doubt he has changed for the worse. Can't wait to hear his music with Chris Connelly and Ogre singing!

Actually the opening riff of Lava is 2 guitars pitched down an octave through an Eventide H3000.Killer sound...

by the way, while I'm tryin' to get my hands on one of bassmasters:
I've read what the silicon version gives more 'vintage' sound than germanium one. Youtube reviews gave me nothing on this. Can anyone explain me the difference or give a link to good samples?
