Thanks Tim & Ken for putting together a great GTG. I got a chance to see some great gear that I never would have had a chance to see, feel or hear. The fEARful's sounded great with every bass, I know what my next project will be. I also learned that I really like Wal basses, and Alembic's truly are amazing!

On the way home Matt and I were talking about all the cool people & gear we saw. I have been kicking around a idea. Tim has hosted the last few GTG's. I have a large warehouse in my business and I have a area set up for the band I'm in to practice. I have a full drum kit & PA. I am willing to host the next one. Maybe we can have a mid to late summer GTG. I have picnic tables & a BBQ grill, (heck the GP in my band owns a catering biz!). We can chat about that if summer ever gets here.

Thanks again!

Yes, thanks to all. It was nice to see all the toys people brought. Thank Timmy for hosting again! The homemade Octoberfest beer was very tasty.

My Dad (a retired shop teacher) is coming down this week and he asked if I had any projects to do (he can handle grandkids only so long). I've got a nice sheet of some fancy 1/2 inch plywood just begging to be cut up into a fEARful 12/6. Then to put it together... That might take a while.

A bit off topic but I noticed a lot of players use a gig bag to carry their bass instead of a hard case. I need another case. Any recommendations for a padded gig bag? PM is fine.

Thanks.

I use the Sadowsky Portabag which is a Sadowsky branded Access Stage-Five Gigbag (cheaper this way too). You can get them from Elderly Instruments for $169 [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I like this because I pack my bass on top of my gear and my bandmates aren't too careful around other peoples stuff. It's a great step between a soft gig-bag and a hard case.

Monocase is another option - but it is more like the Access Stage 5, and there is also Mooradian - which my friend Jeff has used for 20+ years and swears by. It folds for storage, but still offers good protection if you're taking care of it (see note about careless bandmates above). It's more of an East Coast gigging bag (Boston), and I'll be getting one for my new fretted Joiner Bass.

There are a lot of less expensive options out there, but if you have an investment in an instrument, and want to protect it, a good case is worth it.

Kenner had a couple of great gigbags for his Alembics... 'nuff said. Maybe he'll let us know what he's using.

(getting off soapbox) :D

Gigbags...
I have a few of the options... what budget, bass and what use?

Reason I ask is there are tons of options... some were more than my ATA hard cases... I do enjoy my $$$$$ (more expensive than a hard case) bags.... This may be more convenience on my part (can carry an amp in one hand, baby in the other and run with the bass on my back.

I had a troubled time finding info as folks would post back "I love my XYZ" or "if you're not buying an Igig - you're wasting money"

The one I use is heavier, more expensive and less protective than any of my hard cases.

For how I use them, I'm quickly realizing that I should have gotten a dual bag... not to put another bass into, just to have a compartment for mike stands etc.

This is one of the things, I'd buy used - they do come up.

I did not see an address on his site, but I hear that he moved to Harris, MN about a year or so ago.
