Has anyone been in touch with David Minnieweather lately? The conventional methods (cell/email) have been a no go. Have had a custom bass on order with him for quite a while and just want to check in. Please send PM if necessary. Thanks, -Brian

First,I would like to sincerly apolojize to those who have projects out with me:Brian,Chris,Ed,Eric,Mike,Ian,Bill.I am truly sorry.You have all been very kind to think of Minnieweatherbasses.I will make every effort to call and talk to everyone that I have projects out with today and continue to keep in communication till each project is complete.This has not been my intention to hurt or disapoint anyone here.2007/2008 have been very tough years on all fronts.But, I've always tried to stay positive and will remain to do so and stay committed to see things through till projects are completed.Once again I am truly sorry for your experience.I am dedicated to the best quality in every bass that some have come to know.

FYI there are quite a few Minnieweather basses around Portland pawn shops lately. Some finished, some needing some finishing touches.
Hmm...Interesting. Keep an eye out for one with this top. He's been working on it for a couple of years now, and supposedly it was stolen from his workshop.
Will do. I saw three today at one shop (two 5ers and 4-string fretless), but none looked like that cut of wood.
Hey What shop did you see those at Fenjazz: I am curios to see his work in person and obviously it's better to get them from a shop than direct. I really feel for you guys with money out and waiting forever.

I will not get into details at the moment but any one who is expecting a bass from David Minnieweather you will not be getting your bass.
Since Jauqo won't go into details, David Minnieweather is no longer with us, I don't know anymore, just read the news on Facebook.

oh wow, that is VERY sad. i had the pleasure of getting to know david and work with him at a NAMM several years ago. he was a solid person and an extremely talented luthier. i'm extremely saddened by this news and would love more details. if anyone in the know feels that the forums are not the appropriate place for this info, please PM me. i hadn't spoken to david in several years, but before then i had a nice personal relationship with him.

Sad news indeed. I've known Dave for around 4 years. We've had our ups and downs, but I challenge you to find a nicer, more upbeat guy. He was also one of the more talented luthiers on the scene IMHO.

R.I.P. David Minnieweather!
I met him a few years back at the NAMM show, and his work was very impressive. His 4-string had the most lovely neck carve - sleek and comfy without feeling 'skinny'.
David was also one of the exceptions in the surprising shortage of African-American luthiers...for some reason, I have met or heard
of very few.
At the show, he came across as a real gentleman, and seemed
really passionate about his craft. As I understand it, he was also a fine player.
May he rest in peace.
