MIRACLE NEEDED

I got off the computer for a bit to console my fiance, she just got back from the hospital...

You guys are the best! I read her some comments and they brought tears to our eyes.

Wow, India to Russia to Cali the world is full of wonderful people :).

Thanks guys.

I found out a little while ago, when my fiance got home from the hospital, that Missy didn't have the strength to sign the cards yet. So, at this point we can just pray that she can get that done.

Her husband is some kind of guy!! He's talking sweet to her whenever she comes too, smiling at her, telling her how beautiful she is. And while she sleeps he's handling all the unfortunate business that only a spouse can handle when this kind of thing is happening. Wow... and all the while, somehow keeping it together for his little boy. He's asked the hospital for a counselor, he wants advice on how to tell his son when the time comes... how heartbreaking is that?

That's a really sad story, but what she's doing with the cards sounds like a really great idea.

Have they considered hospice? It's a difficult decision for a lot of people to make, but it's one that a few of my family members chose. She may be able to spend her remaining days at home with family, instead of at the hospital. Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference, like being able to sleep together under the same roof as a family. It's never too late either - you'd be surprised at how fast they can do an assessment and get you set up. Not a lot of people know about this, but even if she is signed up and passes away the next day, her family will still be eligible for grief counseling for up to one year. That's something that a lot of people can benefit from.

Whatever they choose, I'm hoping for the best.

Yeah, they've done the hospice prep stuff. She went to the hospital to have fluid removed off her lungs and from around her heart IIRC. All treatment's have been stopped except for the comfort meds. I guess she'll go home as soon as it's possible. I know when my grandfather started filling up w/ fluid, it was only a day or so before he lost consciousness and another day before he passed.

I'll let them know about the grief counseling. Thankyou.

This has just been a dark few months. I lost my Grandmother a few weeks ago and my Father in Law tow months before that. I'm getting way more excercise as a pallbearer than I'd like lately.

But at my Father in Law's funeral I looked at all those people who showed up to pay their respects and thought "He really made an impact in this town to get this many people at his funeral." I can only hope I'm that well regarded when my time comes. Your friend will have earned a similar response. I too was struck by the idea of the cards.

I'm going to pray for Missy.

This really puts things in perspective. We should all take a moment for introspection and be truly thankful for what we have. Hopefully we'll realize that the stuff that is bugging us is likely nothing at all, comparatively.

Thanks guys.
