Mitchel mb200 bass wiring help

My nephew got a mitchel mb200 bass and it keeps draining the battery when not plugged in. I opened the cavity and the barrel Jack only has 2 wires soldered to it, shouldn’t there be a third to ground it?

The black, negative terminal from the battery should go to the ring terminal on the output jack. That way the battery is disconnected when the cable is removed. If the bass works when it’s plugged in and has a good battery the hot is on the right output jack lug so you should be good to solder the battery minus to the third terminal on the jack. You could dig in with a multimeter and double check if you like.

The black wire (battery negative) needs to go directly to the ring terminal on the output jack. That way the battery shuts off when the cable is unplugged. If it connects to ground anywhere else the battery will be live all the time and will drain quickly.
