Bigger usually does sound better, at least for the player.I gigged through half the 80's and all the 90's with a Carvin rig that had a 2x15 and a 4x10. It was entirely awesome. I never noticed any science.
I am listening to the TB collective though and when I get around to getting a new rig I'll probably try matching cabs.
I do think that sometimes what works best on paper is not always the only way to roll. My rig right now has 3 combos consisting of 2 15's and a 12. I can switch between any or all of them with pedals and honestly it sounds the best with all three working together, mismatched or not.
Cheers!

Some players even like a giant wall of mud. The guys with the giant walls who bang on about tone haven't caught on at all. The TB brains trust always invites them to share the light side of their dark holes around if they stray from the Doom thread.

Really? We want to start this again?
Difference is you do it with a rig that is nothing like the average wall of mud, aside from the volume.
The two guys that probably have the loudest rig in the S/D thread do it with fEARfuls. There are also a bunch of Dually and other fEARful owners, and a lot of other guys using well engineered cabs.
Sure there are guys playing with a wall of cabs, but it works for them. So its ok too.
if only I could figure a way to wedge in this 18" 8 ohm Peavey cab I have lying around....Bigger usually does sound better, at least for the player.

S/D Regular here. I use two 1x15 cabinets. It's loud and not at all muddy. Punchy, biting, aggressive OD with solid low end that will vibrate your eyeballs, but not muddy. But thanks for the generalization.![]()
Ouch my back. Hope you have roadies. You're probably just compensating for your lack of talent.

Dont let anyone tell you different. Size matters.

not sure what this even means. could you elaborate?
As much as I love my Mesa bass gear, that Powerhouse 1200 and the PH1000 before it were and are god awful atrocities. When played side by side against ANY of their other cabs, 610, 810, 412, 215, etc, this becomes painfully obvious.
I have been on TB for years and glad I found the Doomer thread though as it was the most non arse=hole filled with think they know it all trolls filled thread on TB and people talked honestly about gear and honestly review it. I am on there for that reason not because Doom is my favorite genre, it isn't. I have a bassic on order and have had lots of the hyped stuff like lifeless Markbass stuff that so many people get a boner over. Just because you a trebbist nonmiddist slappity tappity type most likely that doesn't like a certain style of music it doesn't mean someone else's gear sucks. I don't want big stuff for looks or little stuff for looks or false beliefs, I want good sounding gear plain and simple and if it is lightweight so be it, if not I will grin and bear it.
Hahaha yes, please do.
I smell a title of the next Stoner/Doom thread: "the light side of their dark holes."
