MLB 2018

I wish there was a catcher out there. Marlins won't trade Realmuto, especially within the division. It's literally the weakest position in all of baseball.... I mean at least it's not like the Mets were relying on offense from behind the plate. All they need right now is somebody to put on a reasonable impression of a capable defensive catcher until Plawecki gets back.... i mean, it's not like either him or TDA were Johnny Bench at the plate anyway!

Funniest thing I saw was Piazza actually having to hop on Twitter to silence the fans calling for him to come out of retirement. Did every Mets fan forget what he looked like at the end?

Ahhh yeah, but let's see what if anything comes of the trade talks today

I would see about Lucroy. I think that's why Oakland signed him - he went cheap, and could be trade bait. Or how about Josh Thole? He would be cheap to get back.

Oh, Happy Day!

Some folks think of 4/15 as ‘tax deadline day’...but we know better...

Happy Anniversary, y’all!

Nice. I have my Josh Gibson jersey. Ebbets Field flannels is a dangerous place.

Lobaton doesn't look terrible. Not great, but the Met pitchers seem to work decent with him.

As a Red Sox fan, all I can say is that taking 2 of 3 from NYY is always nice. I liked that they were putting up a lot of runs (27 over the 3 games), and that they battled hard and came back in game 2 after being down 8-0 early, though still lost. Not to disappoint, the heated rivalry is alive and well, and clearly this Sox team has a bit more grit to them than last year's "soft" attitude.

But it's still very early. It would be nice to see Price ditch the turtle routine in big games, and if the Yankees don't clean up their act in the field, it'll be a long season for them. Jeez, they booted the ball around the diamond all three games. No doubt that Stanton/Judge/Sanchez will heat up eventually, and that's always a frightening thought, and they may win a bunch of games just on their hitting, regardless of the spotty pitching and fielding...at least the Yankees better hope so. Looking rough.

Agreed on all counts. Here's what scary... how DEEP the Sox are this year!

The Sox down Bogerts and Pedroia.... two marque players on the team.... and it's as though nothing changed. The Sox are still getn it done. Bogerts had the highest batting average in the MLB when he went down. But the Sox are still scoring almost with ease.

And there was a question early on as to whether or not the Sox Yankees rivalry would carry over to this year. I guess we put that one to bed. :D

I don't mean to bring down the Mets fans, I just thought this tidbit was remarkable. From ESPN: The Mets continued their hot start, becoming the 22nd team in the World Series era (since 1903) to start 11-1 or better. Will that start yield postseason success? Of the 21 teams to start 11-1 or better through 12 games before this season, only eight made the postseason, and only three of those won the World Series: the 1955 Dodgers, 1966 Orioles and 1984 Tigers. Of the teams to start that hot in the past 30 seasons, none has even won a playoff series. -- Sarah Langs, ESPN Stats & Information

Trust me, no chickens being counted yet... But as they say, you might not clinch the post season early, but you can fall out easily. I'm hoping for relevancy.

So, the Phillies seem to be doing well with the Magical Mystery Rotation. It's early yet but if this trend continues ( almost assuredly not - this is baseball after all and slumps happen ) they will seemingly be a well rested club during the most important part of the season and the prime players will have a decent amount of plate appearances ( 600ish if this continues ).

Hmmph.

Yeah, I just thought that was incredible that less than half of those with a hot start like that made the playoffs. Bizarre.

The '87 Brewers were one of those not making the playoffs. They started 13-0, then had a 12-game losing streak in May. Those 2 streaks plus Molitor's 39-game hitting streak gave them the Team Streak moniker.

The Mariners are off to at least a decent start. The Angels will come back to earth. Too bad the Mariners wasted a good start by Felix yesterday. The Astros are in town for four games. If they can win that series, then this might start looking like a season that I might just start paying attention to. Or something like that. Safeco Field needs some ivy covered walls if they don't get with it pretty soon. At least there's a street outside the park so the most massive home runs have the option of going through somebody's windshield.
