Mostly, I remember 1967 as one of those years when the Yankees sucked so desperately.
We lived in The Bronx at the time...within walking distance of The Stadium...and l was a fan as only a 12 year old can be.

For the Yankees, he is.:rollno:

Yeah. I heard some people asking out loud if he is giving a sweetheart deal to the Yankees.
He's traded away three All-Stars already, and rumor has it he isn't done.
I noticed the MLB commissioner has no issue with it.
Perhaps I'll look back in 4-5 years when the Marlins are the best team in MLB and realize I overreacted.

They’ve torn that team apart, down to the studs (no pun intended), 2wice before...and came back stronger than ever.

Man!
I would Hate to think that Jeter has some sort of backstreet thing going on with The Team That Shall Not Be Named!
That would kick the pins out from under one of the trio of players from that team, from that era, whom I respect.:crying:

True, but both times they won the WS, the team was gutted by spring training of the following year. They've been through so many rebuilds, it's insane. I don't blame the fans for being jaded and not showing up.

At least they won a World Series. Just saying. *shuffles away muttering something about 116 wins until post season when the wins stopped...

AAAAgreed!
Why Would anyone show up to watch AA ball players face off against Titans like The Braves?!? :roflmao::roflmao:

In all seriosity, Marlins’ fans have been beaten over the heads and wallets with the word ‘rebuild’ to a fare thee well...so, most of them have Every right to say Fare Thee Well.

Got called out in Philadelphia for wearing my Braves cap.
All in good fun!
He ended up pointing us toward Campos for the best Cheese Steak sammich within walking distance.
I was shocked and amazed that Cheese Wiz! is the rider in the most authentic Philly Cheese Steak.
It Was Great!

The Marlins reflect the new reality in baseball. Either you are one of the big players, who can consistently have a large payroll (Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs), you try to build half a team, and then add like crazy midseason if you think you can make the post-season (Diamondbacks), or you play money all, and keep trading your stars rather than pay them when they are ready for a big contract, hoping you will get lucky. Baseball has a kids' Thanksgiving table.

When the Marlins moved into their new park, they thought they could move into the luxury suite. The Jeter team is trying to do what Houston did - break the team down totally, and build from scratch. This is all the more reason to have both a maximum and minimum salary cap. You can't force an owner to sell a team, but you CAN set rules and tell the owner to either play by the rules or leave.

Dawg, I don’t think this a ‘new reality’ at all...unfair to fans, yes... but nothing New.
I’ve watched it all my baseball life...the Kansas City As, the Philadelphia Athletics before them, the Kansas City Royals, the Pirates, the (Devil) Rays, the Astros...all ‘feeder’ teams...developing talent so that the Cards, and the (NY/SF) Giants, and the Saux, and the team that shall not be named can buy up the best of the lot when the pickin’ gets easy...when the teams at the kids’ table can’t afford them any more.

My Grandfather was a Union man back when that could get you killed...no hyperbole.
Any talk of a salary cap runs counter to everything I understand about the Good Ol’ USA. A player should be free to accept the highest offer, Full Stop.
A minimum salary floor Feels better to me, but it’s just the same thing...forcing owners to spend money they otherwise wouldn’t spend...they’d be happy to field a AA team and pay them AA wages.
It’s an important conundrum.
The (lack of) fans in the seats in Miami is a Natural Consequence, and Teachers Love Natural Consequences!

There used to be the haves and the have nots - now there are different (and unequal) legitimate ways to wins- the haves can do it any years. The others...

I agree that some owners just do not want to spend money - that's exactly my point. You want to come to the table of ego and ability to print money, you play by the rules. It also puts the teams on a more equal footing. Seems to work for the NFL. Don't compare it to the NBA - you have two stars (even one if he is super enough) and you can compete for the title.
