MLB 2018

Congrats to the Sox. Good game capitalizing on the bonehead moves by Dodger Management. Hopefully, Friedman will be history after this debacle of a series and the reliance on the numbers will be tempered with some actual thought by a human being. In 77 and 78 Reggie Jackson beat the Dodgers. In this series Boston was great, but the Dodgers pretty much beat themselves.
Question for fox viewers...

My new hearing aids go back to the Red Sox/Astros series.
The sound kinda ‘hissy’ to me...I hear plenty of high end.
I’ll report that to the Audiologist when I see her next week.

Re: Baseball...I’m hearing WAY too much crowd noise...that hissing? sound that 55,000 people make when they get together.
I mentioned to my Bride that I was having trouble hearing the announcers over the background roar.
She said ‘I get it...they’re not exactly Up Front in the mix’

I listened to Friday’s and Saturday’s games on the radio, and had no trouble at all hearing the play by play.

(For what it’s worth; they we’ren’t any better than the Bozos on fox.)

Anyone else ‘struggling’ to make out the play by play?

I pretty much tuned out what the two nimrods were saying. But the crowed noise on Fox is terrible. Our regular season broadcasts through the Spectrum/Dodger channel is a lot better. It seemed tonight that there was more noise for the Sox than the Dodgers. Maybe fans at the park were actually cheering for the Sox? I don’t blame them if they were. The management team has a lot of soul searching to do.

Great ending.

When it comes to announcers at least, I am spoiled. Good announcers can make almost any game enjoyable. For years, the Mets had three announcers - two would do to, 1 radio. Every three innings, they would rotate. When Lindsey Nelson had Notre Dame football, only two (including 1 18 inning game). Today most teams have three for TV, 2 for radio, annother 2-3 for the Spanish broadcast, a guy in the stands, various interviews of former players, and other pre/post game commentators. Between that and the myriad of stats, it's overkill.

OK, now that the season is over, we get to the hot stove. Everyone here loves baseball, but there are things that could be improved. Here are some thoughts to discuss:

1. Pace of play - everyone knows it is to long. My number one way to do it - once the batter steps in the box, unless he has a legitimate injury, he does not get to step out or get time out. The pitcher can throw when he wants. I'm tired of players stepping out after every pitch for 20 seconds. Not only would it speed up the game, but would stop the batter from being able to swing from the fences, since he has to react to a pitch coming.

2. Roster size. A generation ago, you had 10-11 man pitching staffs. Now it's 13. Expand the roster to 28 (but maximum of 13 pitchers). Also, stop the roster size from increasing to 40 in August. Max it at 30. This would keep the union happy, since more players would still get time toward their pension, but it would keep the games fairer, since everyone is playing by the same rules.

3. Once a pitcher enters a game, he has to pitch to at least 2 batters. This would stop the parade of relief pitchers in an inning.

4. Stop the crazy shifts. There have to be two infielders on either side of second base. It still allows some shifting based on the batters' tendencies, but keeps things a little more sane.

I don't mind the pace of play. Baseball is slow and deliberate.

-Mike

Slow and deliberate I don't mind. But baseball has gone from two hours to three hours to four hours (in the playoffs). Too much for me, and I love baseball more than any sport.

Check the chart in this article.

No matter what any baseball game is 1000 times better than any basketball game. Talk about boring.
